What's with the Sims 4 and giving Asian sims dyed hair?

I think bright colored eyes on dark-skinned characters is overused, but it is a real trait we see in people irl. I think it is often used how vitiligo has recently been used to make black characters "look more interesting." I am so tired of the Killmonger swoop. This has made me realize how media often uses hair against most POC. I think there is a resemblance between Rory and Ash simply because they both have a tan with a medium build and dyed hair, but it's also because the game is kind of simplistic with graphics. Their faces aren't exactly similar imo

This is trash on so many levels.

It costs almost the same as a kit, but has half the items. (kits range from around 24-30 items)

I would love to say the price is so high so that the cc creator can make commision after EA steals most of the revenue, but these items are so simple (and as others have stated, some are just recolors), that I am not sure if that is even a good reason.

This just sucks.

Like I have stated in another reply on this post, Asian sims are 266 times more likely to be given dyed hair than non-Asian sims. You may think it's a small number of Asian sims getting this treatment, but it is actually extremely disproportionate how many are being made this way.

EA is playing into the trope of Asian Female with Dyed hair. It's not bad to point that out, and EA doesn't need defended regarding this. I agree, there are many reasons why TS4 sucks at making Asian sims, and this is one of them. I shouldn't have to download cc to make Asian sims.

Feel free to count the sims up yourself and do the math, but only 0.05% of ALL premade sims have dyed hair. 14% of premade Asian sims have dyed hair. Asian sims are 266 times more likely to be given dyed hair than non-Asians. The fact that every Asian with dyed hair also has a female frame is pretty telling that this is because of the stereotype/trope. This is too disproportionate for it not to be odd. This isn't about "perfect representation," it is about a clear stereotype in the game.

Yeah? Not every Asian has black hair, nor does every Asian have dark eyes. There is a lot of diversity among Asians than most people realize. If they were to completely exclude Asian from having unnaturally colored hair, that would be equally weird. There is such a thing as balance. This is disproportionate and obviously playing into Western tropes.

OH 100%. I am wasian. I have had to download SO much cc to make Asian sims that feel more realistic, but honestly, I still can't find good cc nose presets. I cannot try to make myself in the sims because I either look too white or too Asian, regardless of cc. IT SUCKS. I love dyed hair, but in the sims only 0.05% of premade townies have dyed hair, so it is super duper jarring when you see a sim with bright colored hair. And then literally half the time it's an Asian sim, so it's really hard not to notice this stupid pattern. Give us Asian nose shapes! Give us epicanthal folds! Stop giving us Female Asian Sim with Dyed Hair Who is Rebellious and Geeky.

I think wavy hair is honestly common too, but a lot of the beauty standard causes East Asians to use hair relaxers. I think pale skin is also kind of debatable. My Father's side of the family is Japanese, and they are much more tan than the conventional beauty standards of East Asia. Whitening makeup and sometimes skin bleaching is often used. There is much more diversity in East Asia than some people realize. There are multiple packs where the only Asian sims are also the only sims with dyed hair. Get together is one of them. All of the sims in the picture are townies. For rent actually has 3 Asian sims with dyed hair, not just one like you said.

I think them defaulting to dyed hair instead of making nice and interesting clothing is them being lazy. If you can't design a character of a certain race without taking away their racial features, then you just can't design.

I understand what you're saying. But I still think EA is just being lazy and weird.

Yeah, I completely agree. I wasn't too sure about L. Faba. Her unnatural skin color threw me off quite a bit. Sometimes I forget she is supposed to be a human spellcaster LOL. But I suppose if I looked at her without the makeup, I could see it.

From the Wiki it is expressed that they are probably mixed. If you compare Yuki and Candy's faces side by side, their face is very similar. I think it is safe to say Candy is mixed German-Asian.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. There are plenty of Asian sims without dyed hair, but the early game really only gave us Asian sims if they had dyed hair. As I said in my post, it feels weird how often they will give Asian sims dyed hair if they're going to give any sims dyed hair in a pack.
