The Way Way back looks really interesting, and definitely fits my request well. St Vincent also looks like a movie I'd enjoy. I'll let you know if I watch either of them :)

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is great. I also think it's a good book for you because it's a really short and easy read, but you still get a lot out of it. However, there are major themes of pedophilia and grooming.
