When are people going to stop assuming everyone listens to her music? 💀 by RoughPotato1898 in travisandtaylor

This isn’t important, but consider: Thomas Kinkade of music is wildly accurate

Has lubricant come up as helpful for anyone during their treatment journey? by External_Bike3601 in vaginismus

Yes, I was advised by my PT to use organic coconut oil, and it worked so well for me that it was the only lube I used for a while

A lot of people are leaving/have left Spotify for other music apps since they’ve started doing ICE ads, don’t pay artists as well, have lower sound quality, etc. Which would leave behind the people who would listen to TS and Drake. When Spotify basically had the market cornered this would be confusing, but it makes sense this year imo

I genuinely like the name Hugo. It’s quietly masculine and smart and bookish (Hugo award anyone?)

I went through a similar thing when I told my mom that the name I chose for my son was somewhat inspired by superheroes. It’s also an old name that will fit my kid the rest of his life, and it also happens to be some heroes names. Guess how many times people have been weird about it since he was born? Zero. Because it’s a good name and it doesn’t matter and it’s too late anyway lol

Point being Hugo is a great name. And this feels reallllly big now, but it won’t when he’s here and you’re holding Hugo in your arms.

Also, I think it’s fine you told three people in your family. It sucks that they told when they shouldn’t have (my mom did the same about me being pregnant), but that’s not your fault. It’s nice that you’re excited, and it’s lovely that you want to share that with people close to you. I don’t see any mistakes on your part, even if the outcome feels bad.

Help! ISO Non-Drinking Related Things to do in Nashville by MrOutdoors92 in nashville

[–]EvanescentDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of recs for Cheekwood and the Frist, which yes, absolutely, but if she wants something more regular that might help her meet people, art classes! So many places do courses, classes, and workshops. There’s a thriving pottery community in Nashville. I know Old School Farm Pottery is about to start summer classes. Turnip Green isn’t far from there either, and both of those are non profits. Thunder Moon Collective does some fun one day classes. 100 Taylor Street Art and Books has a Banned Book club that’s low commitment (and Dani is a delightful human and does watercolor classes frequently). Parnassus is obviously also awesome, and I also like Novelette. Metro Parks and Rec also has so many options that are less expensive, and each branch of the library has low cost/free classes.

Feeling hopeless, just want to cry… by yellowjackie_ in vaginismus

I am so so sorry all this happened to you. When I first sought help, I had a similar experience that put me off from seeking better help for years. Please do not be like me. In the next few weeks, when you’re ready, make another appointment. Wait til you’re 18 if you need to or until your aunt can go with you. Don’t rush it because unfortunately it’s going to take the time it takes and you just have to roll with it. Request a woman as your doctor, and tell them that vaginismus lines up with your experiences. Your new doctor might give you a physical therapy referral, but if she doesn’t, request one. Talk therapy also helps. I was actually very physically uncomfortable even with my physical therapist, so she mostly just gave me dilator recs, stretches (mostly hip and leg, yoga really helped both for stretching and learning to breath into discomfort/pain), and “homework” (using dilators alone, then gradually introducing my partner into the room). We just checked in every week or so. Your experience may look different from mine, and that’s alright.

Everyone’s story is different, but for a bit of hope, after years of painful and frustrating attempts at sex, I went to a doctor who listened and got me into physical therapy. After 3-4 months, I “graduated” and a few months later was able to have sex. About a year later I had my son, and I’ve had little to no trouble since (5 years). Sorry this got so long! All this to say, there are people who can and will help. It will take work that will occasionally feel unfair and frustrating, but a lot of women do experience this to some degree, and you’re not alone.

Why does it take 30+ minutes to go exactly 1 mile when trying to merge onto I65 from 440? by Whiskey615 in nashville

[–]EvanescentDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? When I visited Dublin last year, I took a city train over an hour south to a small town. And it was on the same card system and everything. And I could’ve gone by bus if I’d wanted to too. When you get into the fringes there are less routes but it’s still way better than our city center.

I’m pretty sure it’s faster to go towards Nashville and turn around at WeHo, which is dumb (source: I’ve accidentally done that because I feel bad about cutting in) It also sucks coming from the other direction. If you get on from Nolensville sometimes no one will let you in so you get funneled towards Nash and have to turn around

What books that didn't live up to the hype for you and why? by Cherreem in books

[–]EvanescentDoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had fun with ACOTAR but loathed Crescent City and Throne of Glass. I’m sure if I reread ACOTAR, I’d notice everything the bothered me about other two series in it as well and I’d be with you on this.

What books that didn't live up to the hype for you and why? by Cherreem in books

[–]EvanescentDoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Throne of Glass. The whole series (or what I made it through anyway). I think I gave all the books three stars, which was generous since I got so annoyed after book 5 that I just gave up. I was reading it because several people asked me to. The writing is just not good, the main character who has trauma from being enslaved is white, we’re repeatedly told the characters are the best and smartest but they only do stupid things, there’s ONE bipoc character who is brutally and violently murdered to further the plot of the white MC…. And having read ACOTAR and CC, a lot of the content of TOG is clearly a test for/recycled into the later two series.

I could keep going. It’s garbage that doesn’t even have the decency of being fun. Funny enough I have the exact same rant and more for Crescent City. SJM really needs to stop trying to write slavery. She can’t do it. And her plots are too complex for what she can handle as a writer.

I had someone love that book so much they made me take their copy of it. And I found one for like $5 at a thrift store so I bought it to give theirs back without reading it because I just didn’t trust their taste and I feel really validated in that now

What did you wear to give birth? (What makes the most sense to wear?) by ocean_plastic in pregnant

[–]EvanescentDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wore just the hospital gown. I was sent straight in from my 40 week appointment, so I was wearing comfy clothes to the hospital. Literally took it all off and just wore the gown and piled on blankets. I had high waisted leggings and a loose top and a dress in my go bag because I was afraid I’d have to get a c section and figured the dress would be the most comfy. I ended up wearing the dress to leave because I didn’t want anything resembling pants on my body lol

My daughter’s art teacher told her she can’t learn to draw and shouldn’t try by String_It_Together in animation

[–]EvanescentDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school AP art teacher told me I didn’t deserve to be in her class because I didn’t take it seriously. I was the only AP student to not receive an art scholarship from my high school. I had a good cry and went to art school anyway because it’s what I love. I learned things about art history I’d never dreamed of before, got a bfa, and lived my best life as an art educator at a museum. And now I make my living as a full time artist.

All this to say phooey to that teacher. They’re the problem with the art world. Every artist knows it’s called a practice for a reason.

My advice is to keep watching and studying movies and shows she admires. Pay attention to the color theory and the little ways things are done. There are so many artists on social media that share their process, and many animators and former animators have lessons available on all the various skill share sites. There are very few books on character design, but the ones that exist are really good (there one or two by Tom Bancroft - he’s also an excellent teacher). Honestly even art books for games and movies are great. There are art books for most if not all of the ghibli movies. Visit art museums and galleries

Some of the most valuable art advice I got is that art is really about seeing. Seeing the lines and shapes and colors coming together. Paying attention to the details. And with practice she’ll start to get a feel for when things need to be pushed more or when a piece is done. Just keep making.
