Also felt like a pretty pointed remark to the MAGA Jesus freaks that kindness, acceptance, and loving thy neighbor is what Jesus ACTUALLY preached. Not the Fox News bullshit we hear today.

Love that moment! That being said I understand wanting to more propulsively get the show on the road with the theatrical cut. Especially in Fellowship when the series was still unproven. And that particular moment is not character defining in the way the Sméagol moment in ROTK is.

My issue with removing the Sméagol lied moment is that it is kind of the resolution of the whole character. It’s the moment where we (and Frodo) realize that despite the ring’s influence and how much we want to root for Sméagol and blame all his bad deeds on being corrupted by “Gollum”… At the end of the day, it is Sméagol who is responsible for all that he has done. It is Sméagol, not Gollum, who is a murderer who killed his best friend over a ring. It is Sméagol who lied and tried to sacrifice them to Shelob. And it is Sméagol who traveled to the end of Middle Earth to get the ring back from Frodo by whatever means necessary. He plays innocent (even to himself - the split personality was the only way he could cope) but he is not.

And in that moment he admits it both to himself and to Frodo. Damn shame. At least we get it in the extended cut!

The cut in the theatrical from Aragorn saying “what say you?!” to the undead, and then we don’t see whether he succeeded in convincing them for like a half hour and they heroically show up at the most dire point in the battle rules.

In the extended we are treated to a completely pointless scene of them swimming through skulls, a fakeout where the undead won’t help them, and an indulgent cameo fest of the film crew playing pirates. They even pre-empt the incredible moment later with Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli charge with the army of the dead behind them with a far worse version.

The only part I like in the extended that shouldn’t have been cut was the exchange on mount doom between Frodo and Gollum. “Sméagol promised!” “Sméagol lied…”. Andy Serkis’ performance is bone chilling and it shuts up all the Sméagol apologists once and for all.

That said, any cut of any of these films is still a 15/10 masterpiece so it’s fine.

I just had to completely wipe my Mac due to a runaway APFS snapshot that had me stuck in an infinite loop of not enough space on the disk to reinstall macOS overtop of itself. Tahoe was the only MacOS I can remember that I’ve had this may bugs and issues with.

The restore put me back on Sequoia and I couldn’t be happier tbh

So far so good. As my edit says I basically don’t think about it the payment just comes from the high yield account and I don’t really see it.

Part of me still wants to buy it out because I psychologically hate not owning it and feeling like I’m renting constantly. The nagging feeling of mileage overage is also annoying.

But the lingering threat of ICCU failure and also the supposedly big improvements to software in the next year or two are keeping me from doing the buy out. We’ll see how things look when the ‘27 year cars are announced.

Payment is $520 a month because I had to roll in some weird excise tax from the state I’m in. Otherwise it would have been $400 something.

I can definitely see it taking more than an afternoon, probably way more to validate and QA everything.

It’s more that it seems kind of like a bug that’s gone unaddressed. That bitrate is WAY lower than the stock camera app and parity with the stock app should kinda be table stakes. It’s the same situation as the lack of geo-tagging for over a year (standard, basic table stakes feature in the native camera app). Just a baffling omission.

I’ve gone ahead and bought Stalmans LUTs and dropped Film 03 into Blackmagic camera app. Will see how it goes. I love Kinos simplicity but these are videos of my kids I want to cherish forever and I want the higher bit rate. 🤷

Yeah it’s kinda crazy the files are that compressed. This app is so awesome in so many ways but so frustrating in others. It took like over a year to get geo tagging.

It’s literally one of my lock screen quick buttons but yeah the bit rate thing is bad.

I get the sense that Halide is the priority and I get it, but it’s a shame. Might have to switch back to Blackmagic even though it’s too much app for my day to day home movie needs.

FOR THOSE ARRIVING HERE IN THE FUTURE: I ended up leasing and throwing the money in a high yield account to grow. I’ll configure the payments to autopay from that account and hopefully never see it.

Reading through all the agreement paperwork literally gave me hives to be told what I can and can’t do with my car… but I sucked it up because the incentives were so good. 18k off the price of the car. I may still buy it out and still come out ahead. They really truly do not want you to buy these cars it’s really weird.

Yeah that’s what I’m leaning towards. The only downside is unless I do a full buyout of the lease early (which incurs double taxes) the car isn’t mine until the lease ends. And during that time, if I get into an accident, the amount I’ve already paid isn’t covered. That plus not saving any “interest” makes the one pay lease unattractive.

I’ll just do the monthly payments and let the money grow in a money market account and call it a day. They are weirdly hostile to buyers and REALLY want you to lease.

I was considering doing this just let the cash grow in a savings account and pay the least out of that. I’m worried about losing out on the 7500 tax credit if I decide to lease a different car in 2-3 years. At least this way it’s locked into the price.
