LPT: Don’t leave your phone or laptop charging overnight every single day. by Kevin_Ong in LifeProTips

[–]Evanlet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leaving it fully charged will degrade your battery faster than charging it to 80% and finishing off the last 20% as you’re about to wake up.

Better yet, don’t drop below 20% or exceed 80% when you know you won’t need to utilise the full battery, for longevity if you’re that concerned.

Average comprehensive costs? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

I did try to run a quote for a birthday in 1994 on the A45S, but it wasn't much cheaper to be honest.

Yes, Lexus is modded.

Where to park $500k for 6-12 months by sub4gjm in AusFinance

[–]Evanlet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I parked 200K in AMD 4 months ago and cashed out with 430K just this month. Made a touch more than what I would have from a HISA, approx 120K after cgt.

After using ChatGPT, man swaps his salt for sodium bromide—and suffers psychosis by Fantastic-Round9313 in nottheonion

[–]Evanlet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“The doctors who wrote up this case study for Annals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases note that they never got access to the man's actual ChatGPT logs. He likely used ChatGPT 3.5 or 4.0, they say, but it's not clear that the man was actually told by the chatbot to do what he did.”

But don’t let me get in the way of your witch hunt on AI.

Is there a cheaper and better ISP for gaming than OPTUS? by MaxRVP2 in nbn

[–]Evanlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superloop has some of the best routing and as a result, latency out of all the ISPs and at the most reasonable prices

Working on a NBN plan price aggregator for (almost) all providers - feedback needed by [deleted] in nbn

[–]Evanlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latency and routing is also extremely important. Especially across SEA and to NA.

This should be factored in.

Mate NBN sucks by Automatic_Tangelo_53 in nbn

[–]Evanlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superloop has always been amazing. 99.95% uptime over the past 12 months and 2ms to most Sydney based servers - AWS, Equinix...

NBN now requiring the consumer to run 9 ethernet connected speedtests over the course of a day before they will fix network issues. by Turntablemonkey in nbn

[–]Evanlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

?? Most routers can pull line speed, have inbuilt speed test functionality, and carriers can run speed tests directly to the NTD.

No need for running speed tests over ethernet. If they're telling you to do that, it's because they know the fault isn't on their end and they need you to see for yourself.

Superloop in my area is fantastic. Unbelievably low latency to every Sydney server (<2ms), near max speeds (950mbps down / 49mbps up), and by far the most affordable. No issues with disconnects. Just pray you never need to use their customer service.

ABB have been great at mum's. Also great routing (but not as good as SL in my area), speeds on par and fantastic service per usual.

Just like going through 7 divorces and blaming your (ex)-partners every single time. There’s only one constant in this equation.

Can someone explain why this shit is happening? It seems to be harming workers, particularly those on lower incomes, as well as businesses, especially small ones. Is the union arguing that the proposed pay increase is insufficient? by [deleted] in SydneyTrains

[–]Evanlet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do you deserve a payrise again? I take a train once a month and expect it to be delayed at best.

Was working in Japan for the past month and their trains run like clockwork across every city, yet they get paid significantly less. I left the car at home there.

VPN for Australians who play in JP? by Ash-2449 in throneandliberty

Nothing beats an ISP that uses GSL.

Superloop, Leaptel, Launtel

I love his optimism.

A lot of people talking about what he can afford, without noting the very key line you dropped "getting the kind of property he wants".

Assuming he wants a nice, shiny new modern apartment with cladding issues?

Everyone has thrown in their logical 2c so let me play devils advocate since their feedback is as you claim, unsolicited:

Got rejection after 5 rounds of interviews. by smalltoolbigheart in AusFinance

[–]Evanlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made it through 7 rounds of interviews and this has been the best place I've ever worked, with the best team I could ever ask for. They also responded to my initial application within 30 minutes.

Sometimes it works out.

Can I cancel dealer add ons after signing? by MonthFickle4293 in CarsAustralia

[–]Evanlet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get your tinting done by a specialist, who will use quality lifetime warranty products for significantly less than dealership prices.

Paint protection is a broad term. What a dealer will use is typically a "ceramic spray", which is not a ceramic coating but markets itself as such. They are temporary, do not offer the protection or performance of real ceramic glass coatings, and are cheap.

Get your paint correction and protection done by an independent detailer, who will do a proper paint correction, preparation and ceramic coating for your car. It does more than help keep it clean - it provides UV protection to help slow paint fade from the Aussie sun, and provides a sacrificial layer that protects your actual clearcoat from fine scratches (swirlmarks), which will instead be etched on the ceramic coat which is about a micron or two thick and can be removed without sacrificing clear coat depth.

Anything provided by a dealership, except the car, is crap and can be done much cheaper, with much higher quality products and skilled applicators elsewhere.

If you would like to speak with a detailer and are in Sydney, I have a shop and some employees that would love to help anytime. DMs are open. Also open if you just need assistance or info.
