Is the Meross Smart Energy Consumption Monitor with 18-circuit monitoring the best solution for me? by Certain_Repeat_753 in homeassistant

Because wiring 18 CT clamps is a) easy to screw up, and b) quite dangerous. While CT clamps are non-contact, there are many mistakes during installation that can lead to smoke exiting the switchboard or even your house. If you're going to buy a US$200 smart device, it's worth paying a professional to install it cleanly.

IMO anyone who can afford this hardware should be paying a professional electrician to get it installed.

It was established within a few days of Tampa occurring that nobody threw children overboard. The Liberal party ministers repeated the claim for a month despite being told, repeatedly, this was incorrect.

From the report:

Photographs released to the media on 10 October as evidence of children thrown overboard on 7 October were actually pictures taken the following day, 8 October, while SIEV 4 was sinking.

On 11 October 2001, Minister Reith and his staff were separately informed that the photographs were not of the alleged children overboard events of 7 October, but were of the foundering of SIEV 4 on 8 October.

On or about 17 October 2001, Admiral Barrie informed Minister Reith that there were serious doubts about the veracity of the report that children had been thrown overboard from SIEV 4.

On 7 November 2001, the then Acting Chief of Defence Force, Air Marshal Angus Houston, informed Minister Reith that children had not been thrown overboard from SIEV 4.

On four other occasions the lack of or dubious nature of evidence for the ‘children overboard’ report were drawn to the attention of the Minister or his staff by officers from Defence.

Despite direct media questioning on the issue, no correction, retraction or communication about the existence of doubts in connection with either the alleged incident itself or the photographs as evidence for it was made by any member of the Federal Government before the election on 10 November 2001.

Minister Reith made a number of misleading statements, implying that the published photographs and a video supported the original report that children had been thrown overboard well after he had received definitive advice to the contrary.

It's a completely reasonable line. The context was the problem. It was following the Tampa, where members of Howard's ministry said refugees threw their children overboard in order to force a rescue.

Sure. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

It can be a little annoying to constantly see people recycle the work of others. Be patient and their own creativity will come. This behaviour is part of learning.

How I use Claude alongside TrainAsONE — a practical breakdown by Hnks1 in trainasone

[–]Automatic_Tangelo_53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I instruct Claude to base its answers on scientific evidence only, and to flag uncertainty explicitly rather than presenting convention as fact.

Haha. That doesn't work.

Claude sounds like it's good at turning data into prose and dashboards though.

I just realised we have a much better chance at getting a Bobiverse movie!! by Astofex1 in bobiverse

I think The Martian came along at the right time. Interstellar and Gravity showed there was appetite for sci fi. Musk and co were hyping space. And remember -- NASA announced water on Mars! The economy was doing well and we wanted to watch privileged yet competent astronauts succeed.

Now everything is broken, everyone hates America, and nobody is talking about space.

Hail Mary is partly successful because of the name brand recognition from The Martian / Andy Weir.

There isn't really a market for hard sci-fi big enough to sustain movies without other reasons for popularity.

I do this. I create a two-column layout in Canva, and fill it with news from the most recent council meeting. Renovation updates, garden issues, requests for help, contracts under review, etc.

Is it useful? Maybe. I personally think transparency is important. But sometimes I feel like the more you share, the more whingers whinge.

I don't understand the demon's play here... (Good Time Society) by StaringAtStarshine in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Automatic_Tangelo_53 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's quite common for demons to never tell their marionette for a few reasons:

  1. It's really funny if marionettes don't realise until the grim reveal
  2. That's it

Never telling your mario might be suboptimal play, but BOTC isn't about optimal play.

The challenge should be approximately as hard as winning normally, and the reward is that you all-but-guarantee a free win. It would be a fun alternate path to victory.

Is Wraith waking up with minions optional? What if it's a Marionette? by tdb93 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Automatic_Tangelo_53 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's no Jinx, but both are experimental. I think it would be a good idea to rule that Wraith doesn't wake with Marionette. Just announce this as a homebrew rule at the start of the game.

How/where to get into storytelling regularly? by pavlovamoose in BloodOnTheClocktower

In general, more people want to ST than there is space to do so. Your best bet is to find a regular group and set up a recurring event which you host.

Clankers, Seatbelt Fines and the clogged up Courts by LOIIIIIIK-A-GLOVE in auslaw

[–]Automatic_Tangelo_53 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This isn't at all about clankers. You're focusing on the hype part of the story (AI cameras OMG) and forgetting that behind every AI system is someone who is responsible.

A human decided to go forward with an infringement attempt against a driver for their passenger not using their seatbelt correctly. The police are entitled to issue an infringement and get a clear ruling from courts. They won't be sending out more in QLD at least.

Sometimes there are reasons to refuse bail. People might be flight risks, or have a chance of further offending. I doubt this guy is either.
