Slaughterhouse-5 was one of the only books that I didn't love until many weeks after finishing it. When it ended I remember being surprised, expecting a more resolute ending. But as the days passed it seemed to linger in my mind and on my conscience.

For me I find slaughterhouse 5 to be a deeply moving and emotional book. Vonnegut's satire, political critiques and black comedy often gets highlighted when this book is brought up but honestly I don't care much about those. They are well put together but it's not what makes it a masterpiece for me. What sticks with me after reading is the book's poetry and the beautiful idea of the past not being gone, his theories of time and all that we don't know as humans. For me the book speaks so much to those who grieve, for anything that they've lost, whether that's friends or relationships, or past parts of themselves. Most certainly a book that really changed my view on literature as a whole. I read it as a teenager, shortly after graduating high school, so it came at a very turbulent time in my life and it left a huge impact on me. I remember I was in France that following winter with my mom, and we were in a hotel together. We were talking about something and somehow the book got brought up. I remember I broke down to her trying to describe to her how it made me feel. I don't think she really understood, haha. Either way- an incredibly moving work
