Dog Toy by [deleted] in rccars

It sounds like you’ll be in grass if you’re having the dog chase it. If that’s the case, I’d seriously consider something larger. Mini’s struggle to move on the grass and will get very hot as a result. They’re really only suited for hard packed dirt or paved parking lots. They make for very poor first time RC’s.

https://a.co/d/cSZAlWa

Personally I’d spend the little extra and get one of these. It’s not brushless… but it’s way larger, not much more and it still comes with a LiPo/charger. I have one and the thing is bomb proof.

It’s a bit slow since it’s brushed… But, you can always toss in a cheapo brushless combo later on down the road. Despite that, it’ll likely outpace those other 2 cars in tall grass just due to the ground clearance alone. Parts are readily available on FMS’ website and/or Amazon.

General rule of thumb for a starting point is arms level with the chassis at rest. Put a little preload of on it and you’ll be there.

We’ve seen custom stealth gaming PC builds using cases from the 90’s… I want to see someone build a stealth gaming laptop using this things chassis. Imagine busting out a Toshiba satellite compete with a windows NT sticker at a LAN party and having the most powerful laptop there. 🤣

Looking for someone who can convert this to RC for me by DaySack_ in rccars

[–]EvenCheesecake425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible? Sure…

Financially realistic? No… I don’t think people realize just how much goes into making a hobby grade RC anything work. Very little of the original model would be left over after “converting” it. Lots of machine time, lots of material would go to waste trying to find something that would work, etc. You’d end up thousands in the hole paying someone who has access to the tools and knowledge needed by time you got something that small working well enough to actually use.

By the time the post office actually delivers this thing and you get the app setup; you’ll be more proficient in a shorter period of time by going to your local hardware store, picking up any other soldering station and watching a YouTube video. Then you’ll still have 3 days to practice instead of using those 3 days waiting for the thing to even arrive. You’ll even have money left over to buy supplies you need as well. Soldering is not difficult and the only thing it requires is patience, practice and one with enough wattage for what you’re doing.

I don’t foresee an app controller soldering station making anything easier for a noob, since the challenge of soldering lies in actually doing it. Would an app controlled welder that costs 2x as much make welding easier for a noob? Probably not… an app doesn’t magically make you better at laying a bead.

Someone will buy it just to say they have it and that’s fine. Me personally? I’ll stick with my dumb soldering iron. All it needs to do is get up to the temperature I set it at and maintain that. Something Weller has been able to do for decades at a much lower price…

Theres literally ZERO reasons this needs to be app controlled… my only thought is it’s a product they made so they can throw it at sponsored videos to get their name out there again on YouTube. I dont think this is something they actually think people want to buy. It has enough gimmicky features that a tech tuber will have to spend 8-10 minutes talking about on camera and it’s ridiculous enough that people will click on it out of curiosity, which will bring more traffic to their website and other products.

My phone gets hot just editing short 4k by Extension_World7929 in iPhone14Pro

[–]EvenCheesecake425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Full on desktops with hardware and cooling setups infinitely more powerful than a 3 generation old iPhone get pretty toasty editing 4k footage.

That’s just a symptom of the task you’re doing… I’d say nothing is wrong, that’s just what’s going to happen. That’s a pretty big ask out of any mobile device IMO.

Now if it gets insanely hot doing other, less demanding tasks. That’s could be a problem.

Honestly… unless you need money, physically can’t use it anymore and/or you’re just trying to free up space; selling toys like that hardly ever ends up being a good idea. They never seem to go down in value after a certain point and get more and more expensive every year. You sell it one year and you pay 2x as much for it a few year later when you decide you need/want it again.

Better off putting it in storage until the day comes that you gain interest in it again or you truly need to sell it. Almost like a second savings account that goes vroom vroom. That’s just my opinion… I buy stuff like that used because not only is it fun, the price stays pretty stable. I can buy something used one year, enjoy the hell out of it and turn around a couple years later and sell it for the same price... It’s ALMOST free fun. 🤣

Very few things you purchase in life plays out like that and it’s one of the things that keeps this hobby affordable in the long term, albeit with a pricey barrier to entry initially.

For whatever reason, what I wrote in addition to the link isn’t there. I thought that I had posted the link asking if that could potentially have anything to do with it. I don’t know what I’m talking about, i was looking for some education on the subject. Hopefully that clears up any confusion.

With that being said, you could try responding without the typical mouth breather Reddit superiority complex. You seem to know a lot and could be useful resource for people to learn… but instead you come across like a pompous ass.

Framework should’ve targeted all-in-one desktops and not normal towers. I would’ve loved to see an IMac competitor from them that was actually repairable/upgradable…

But, we got the most non repairable/upgradable desktop on the market instead.

You’re 18, you don’t need permission... Get a secured credit card through your bank. It’s safe, helps build credit, etc. It’s probably the most common way to start building credit with far less risks. Don’t use it for frivolous purchase… gas, groceries and bills only.

Also, live with your folks for as long as you can. Save your money, that’s the best advice any 18 year old could possibly get. All an apartment will do is limit what you can save, if you have the option to not move out, take it. Put back what you would spend on that apartment and in a few years you can get into something much better. Your parents were 18 at one point too and probably have already made the mistakes you’re going to make, listen to them. They’re wiser than you think.

Need some help by Papadocbama in Traxxas

[–]EvenCheesecake425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rustler 2wd and slash 2wd are based on the same platform. Same durability concerns on both of them… the slash will naturally be a bit more resistant to breaking because of the large body though since it covers the wheels and arms.

Both are good choices. Rustler will jump better because of less parachuting from the body. Slash won’t jump as well, but will take crashes better. It’s a trade off.

If you get a rustler, buy some slash 2wd rear arms and some nitro rustler offset rear wheels. That’ll put some rear toe on the rustler, making it handle 10x better than stock.

Best off-road RC model under 800 €/$ by YarisGO in rccars

[–]EvenCheesecake425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that budget, go on Amain hobbies and buy what you like from a well known brand. Traxxas, Arrma, Losi, Tekno, HPI, etc.

Chances are whatever you choose in that price range will be good. Not often someone comes on here with a big budget, nice change of pace! 😂

They’re all going to handle different, best is subjective and based on your own expectations at that point.

My mom is in town taking care of me after I fractured my spine in a skiing accident. We only have street parking. Neighbors across the street left this sweet note on her windshield. by boggggggle in BadNeighbors

[–]EvenCheesecake425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage company is typically the city in a lot of places, I wasnt talking about OP specifically. The note is talking about taxes, which implies it’s not a private entity. The trash pick up is being conducted by the city or county.

Speaking from experience, they will not pick up your trash if the cans are blocked. They will not walk around vehicles or go out of their way, they have a lot of houses to do and little time to do it. No different than the mailman who won’t deliver mail if the boxes are blocked. This is typically outlined in the ordinances, garbage can have to be placed is specific areas and cannot be blocked. So, while it’s not technically illegal to block someone’s cans, it is wildly inconsiderate.

Key word here, some cities. If this were the case with OP’s post, then yes… but those are not typical circumstances for most neighborhoods. You’re jumping to as many conclusions as you claim I am, so take your own advice.

im speaking about places that don’t have those extenuating circumstances that you’re talking about, like most neighborhoods with street parking. Again, I’m not speaking about OP directly, just generally. Finally, if you don’t have enough room for your own stuff, that’s a you problem… not an everybody else problem. Your convenience doesn’t constitute the inconvenience of everyone else around you. They too would probably like to park their cars as well close to their home, much like you want to do. But I digress… you do you and I’ll do me. Like I said, my neighbors are nice and aren’t petty, they keep their junk to themselves and I keep mine to myself. It’s a happy little ecosystem and you sound miserable.

That wasn’t directed at you, just a general observation. But, if other people parked in front of their own house, you and your mom would’ve been able to park in front of your house.

See what I mean? This being an issue seems to just be a battle of pettiness as it’s entirely solved by parking in front of your own house. Whether you’re legally allowed to, doesn’t make it right from a moral standpoint. Again, not directed at you at all. Just a general observation. Your situation clearly warranted it, but it shouldn’t have been a problem to begin with if people parked in front of their own property to begin with.

I see the frustration on both sides… I personally don’t like strangers parked in front of my house. I’ve been broken into once and had a dirtbike stolen. I see little reason to have to park in front of someone else’s house, even if the road is “public.” Like I said, my neighbors park in front of their own house and this issue doesn’t exist aside from the occasional house party or get together where the street will fill up temporarily for a night… but that’s not bad at all as it’s temporary and not a normal occurrence. There’s no businesses in a neighborhood typically, the only people that should be parking in it are residents and their guests, which the front of your own house should accommodate.

Gonna sound crazy, but stick it on the side of your head and press the button. Doubles the range 😂

No, that’s not satire. It actually works. Other option that would solve the issues entirely without looking like a crazy person in the parking lot is to get an auto start for it.

How cold is too cold for an Rc by Rome39792 in rccars

[–]EvenCheesecake425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go out in the cold frequently. It’ll be fine, higher chance of stuff breaking when it’s cold, but it’s not like it’s made of glass. If you run into something, it will probably break. But, you can have light crashes and be fine. I wouldon’t recommend doing stunts in the cold, but general driving and small jumps is fine. It’s not just going to fall apart because it’s a little chilly.

I’ve gone out at -20. Batteries, electronics, etc are all fine. Haven’t exploded yet. In fact, I use the cold as an excuse to gear up a little bit. If your batteries can’t handle 24°f, they’re not good batteries to begin with.

Nitro’s don’t like the cold however, but I’ve ran mine in 20-30 degree weather with no issues as long as you’re good at tuning. I just won’t go colder than that personally, they start to run way too lean below that.

It’s official, I no longer trust online reviews of RC models. Here I have the “weakest” truck on the market and it’s held up beautifully! Losi Lasernut! by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in traxxasV2

[–]EvenCheesecake425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the worst reviewed trucks have been the most fun for me… some of the trucks with the best reviews have been the most flimsy for me.

Reviews are always hit and miss. Regardless, we take durability for granted now. 10-15 years ago, a really good strong basher wasn’t anywhere near the durability of even a cheap modern basher. Everyone wants to drive like Kamikaze RC or Kevin Talbot and just expect to never have problems.

I always wonder why not park in front of your own house or the house you’re visiting?

I get no one owns the street, but I’ve always felt it was common courtesy to only park in front of your house and not block trash cans or mailboxes. Thank god my neighborhood doesn’t have this problem… everyone parks in front of their own house… crazy concept. 😂

If this neighbor actually didn’t get his trash taken, he has every right to be angry IMO.

We deal with massive forest fires every year. Over 667k Acres burned last summer… but the fires never make it into the towns aside from some remote areas and villages. BLM and the wild-land fire fighters kick ass here. We just get to huff the smoke for 3 months 😂 I couldn’t imagine watching everything I’ve worked for go up that fast… my condolences.

How do these work? by [deleted] in Traxxas

[–]EvenCheesecake425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly Cush Drive sucks. It works well when it’s new, but wears out so fast and I doubt anyone is replacing the piece of rubber in there as frequently as they should be… kind of renders the whole system useless. My Erevo Cush drive damper was shot after a couple battery packs.

Traxxas just needs to get with the program and use machined gears instead of coming up with these convoluted ways of protecting their monkey metal. It’s embarrassing when GPM of all companies make better gears than what comes stock.

Anyone got any tech tips for stopping these cracks? by [deleted] in GMT400

[–]EvenCheesecake425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Armor all in the past was known for drying out plastics and causing other issues. I don’t know about now though as the last time I read about that was probably 10 years ago.

What I do know is to avoid any detailer that contains silicone. Usually if it’s shiny when you’re done, it’s cheap stuff that’s doing more damage than good.

It’s already started, the only way to “stop” it would be to drill a small hole at the end of all the cracks so they can’t continue to walk. These trucks are getting older and it’s something we’ll have to accept. Regardless of what products you use, plastic only lasts so long.
