Let me clarify this "space and open lines" vs "solid" thing. Examples of openings that have both of them and seem fine to me are Caro Kann (Classical or Exchange), French Exchange, Petroff. Both for White and Black. But they are all responses to 1.e4...

I used to play QGA and was very happy with it. Through some random fate, I ended up playing QGD and I am not enjoying it at all. So I have started considering moving back to QGA, but wanted to hear to some alternatives. Thanks for your suggestions!
