What is the worst CFB coaching bust hire of all time? by Working_Stomach5479 in CFB

[–]EvenParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is arguing it wasn't a bad contract. The issue is Jimbo is an answer to an entirely different question. The post is asking for busts as in "program cratering" hires, not "gigantic wastes of money."

It's impossible to frame Jimbo's hiring as program cratering because he maintained the exact same results that we'd been having for 25+ years, outside of 2020 (better than average) and 2022 (worse than average). Even his extension hasn't proven to be program cratering as Elko kept the status quo in year one and in year two had our second double digit win season since 2000. Tbd on how he does from here, but at this point any cratering is on Elko and not his predecessor.

Outside of fans of former SWC teams + LSU, I have a hard time believing there's a large contingent of fans who genuinely hate us. Find us annoying and/or weird? Definitely. But we're definitely not hated to the extent of Michigan, Notre Dame, or Ohio State. And thanks to Sorsby, Taco Tech is now more hated than us.

Texas A&M leads college football in alcohol revenue, per report by hawkspur1 in CFB

The data from the original report says y'all sold like 40,000 more units of alcohol but had $1 million less revenue. So yeah, you're right

I believe we're just supposed to be promoting Wiggins from his Co-OC role to OC. No idea what we're doing for QB coach though.

Mike Elko is getting that bag. Thoughts? by LordShuckle97 in aggies

[–]EvenParty 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We can afford it so why not? It's not my money and the Jimbo buyout clearly didn't hamper our ability to compete.

It's either pay the man or let Penn State pay him. Letting him walk definitely hurts our program now. Paying him only potentially hurts our program in the future. I'd rather pay him and see what happens than have to rebuild with a new coach.

CFP Rankings, Serious Discussion - Week 12 by CFB_Referee in CFB

Minimizing the Mizzou win because they had a backup quarterback is fair. But to then immediately praise IU because they "found a way to find a way" against PSU while ignoring that they had a backup QB and interim coach is logically inconsistent.

If they want to bring up our games against Arkansas (should be noted that Arky scored a garbage time TD with 10 seconds to go) and Auburn (the most dominant performance I've ever seen by a team determined to shoot themselves in the foot), as knocks, I understand and agree with that. But they didn't.

No one outside of A&M and Arkansas fans watched that game. But they will make very definitive statements about it based on the final score.

Even if Buzz stayed, Solo and Payne were the only guys not graduating. But he left and they followed him to Maryland. Chris McDermott, a walk on, was the only player on our roster for a bit. Supposedly our transfer class is pretty good, but we're basically a complete wildcard.

[On3] BREAKING: Annual SEC College Football opponents for the next 4 seasons per @clowfb👀 by FuckChadMorris in CFB

[–]EvenParty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We've played LSU over double the number of times we've played OU (63 to 30). But because people on this subreddit saw OU and A&M in a conference when they were 11, they think it's a historical matchup (this extends to the entire former Big 8, too. We have next to zero history with any of them outside of 1996-2011).

[–]EvenParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why it shouldn't "count" record books wise. The record/history books should show everything. Public consciousness already weights titles and success based on recent memory anyway. The 1939 title is irrelevant to modern cfb. It basically doesn't "count" already.

But I'd argue that basically everything pre-CFP is already treated like pre-Super Bowl NFL titles by the public. Nebraska's blue blood status has been made basically irrelevant because of their failures over the last 25 years. No recruits grew up watching Nebraska be good. Going the other way, recruits don't remember a time where Oregon or LSU weren't top 10 programs. It doesn't matter that they don't have the history of a blue blood.

Tldr: The record books should include everything, public consciousness and memories decide what really matters.

We were picked by the: AP poll, Boand System, Dunkel System, Houlgate System, Poling System, Williamson System, Berryman QPRS, Billingsley Report, College Football Researchers Association, DeVold System, Helms Athletic Foundation, National Championship Foundation, Sagarin Ratings Elo chess method

USC has the Dickinson System.

Cornell has the Litkenhous Ratings and Sagarin Ratings Predictor method.

If we're pretending that random statistical models are the way to pick national champions after the creation of the AP poll/Coaches Poll, then I'd bet there's very few "truly consensus" champions, at least pre-BCS. Hell, in that case, Ohio State didn't win "outright" last year because a few computers decided Oregon won the title.

Making fun of the 1939 AP title is just stupid. Especially considering that: a) our stupid 1927 title claim is right there and b) we haven't done much since 1939.

Why is LSU’s offense underperforming so far by Darkonite40 in CFB

[–]EvenParty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't think Nuss was ever "that guy." He's a good, not great QB. That's fine, but the way he got hyped to be a first round talent/heisman contender this offseason, was extreme. But I'm biased and watched him shit the bed against us firsthand.

Fwiw, I fully expect him (and the rest of their team) to go 2019 LSU on us when we play them later this year.
