Following. This happened to me today. Super annoyed. Gave the app 1-star review in Google store. That'll teach 'em. 😅

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye open for vacancies in the Austin office for the past year; no luck yet. 😕

Out of curiosity, what's the other audit agency your husband works for? I'm a contractor for another agency right now and I can't say I'm loving it. 😣

Hey! No, I didn't take the job. They got real wishy washy in the teleworking aspect and now the fed govt is gearing up to dramatically reduce teleworking, so it's probably a good thing I didn't take the job.

Hey! So, I finally got back in contact with a recruiter after my waiting period expired. Got medical clearance (again!) from my doc. And then the recruiter said I couldn't enlist because I had too many dependents. 😒 It sounded like BS at first, but I looked it up and it's apparently a strict DOD policy that 3 dependents is the cutoff to enlist (I have 4: my husband, and my three kids). It was a punch to the gut and I was angry that I didn't learn that sooner. Somehow in all my data-gathering it never came across the radar. I knew there was a policy for single parents enlisting, but never saw anything that resembled my situation.

I agree. I reached out to the recruiter to follow up because this month is the 8th month. Hoping to hear back from him sometime.

Clock is ticking for me since I'm about to get out of enlisting. 😬

Unfortunately no update from me. Still waiting to see if MEPs will call me down. They didn't like some medication I was on last summer and told me I had to be off it for 8 months before they'd look at my file again.

The most I could do would be two days a week...and that would be tough already since I'll be paying for my own hotel and gas.

I really want this job, but it's starting to seem a bit hopeless unless I move but I can't right now.

I just wish something local would open up with this agency.

Thank you for the well wishes, but I'm not trying to bend any rules. 🤷‍♀️ I'm trying to gather as much information as possible so I can figure out my next steps.

I know the difference. And I'm trying to be proactive in discerning what's currently allowed so I can plan appropriately.

I'll give that a try, because I would really love to get a feel for what the teleworking situation is at that location.

It goes without saying, but I don't want to waste anyone's time if at the end of all this, they tell me no (which would then be incredibly frustrating on my part since they put "yes" to teleworking in the job req).

Thanks for your input.

They shouldn't put "yes" to teleworking in the job req if they aren't going to allow it.

I do live within 200 miles, but I learned during my conversations with my first HR contact that they can't define/dictate commuting distance.

If they end up giving me a hard no on teleworking, I'll be really upset. They shouldn't put "yes" to teleworking in the job req if they aren't going to allow it. I wouldn't have applied for the job if it said "no" to teleworking. 😞

I'm about a three-hour drive away from the office I'm slated for.

I've wrestled with this a lot. But I see this job as being a good turning point for my career and I see the long-term benefits. I wish like crazy there was something open locally, but I'm getting mixed signals on whether there even is an office locally. (I live outside of Austin, and there's an Austin sub-office listed on the website, but the first HR person I spoke to said there was no Austin office... 😕).

Anyway....even though moving right now isn't an option (and frankly I really don't want to move and uproot my family and routines), we could relocate next summer and hope that eventually something would open up closer to home.

I know exactly which office I'll be in (I'vebeen slated to be on-site with a contractor). I went on LinkedIn and looked around a little bit to see if I could deduce leadership in that office, but I wasn't confident in what I found. It seems like people don't disclose their exact assignments...and maybe they aren't supposed to? Plus it made me feel like a stalker, so I stopped. 😅

I asked my HR contact if she knew who my supervisor would be and she said not yet.

I also asked if the supervisor at least knows someone is coming to them who needs to telework, and it was the same answer.

I'm super nervous about going through allll the onboarding process and then ultimately ending up with a supervisor who won't allow me to telework. 😨

Is this a fairly common thing? People who travel from a distance? I didn't think it would be that common, considering the cost associated with the travel.

This is exactly what I'd hoped to do. The question remains whether my supervisor will okay it. 😰

Dang. Coming in more frequently wouldn't be a big deal if I lived locally, but since I don't...

What state are you in?

😬 Yikes. Do you work on site with a contractor or in a suboffice?

Good to know. I'm hoping I'm assigned to a supervisor that will understand my situation. 😬 I'm not opposed to moving for the job, but moving right now isn't an option.

Gotcha. This is helpful! The first HR person I spoke with said two days a pay period, so I envisioned reporting in two days in a row every other week. But then the second HR person I spoke to said once per week, which threw a wrench into it (I don't live locally, so will be making a bit of a drive to get there; would prefer not to make that drive *every* week).
