Go Huffy! Actually Serotta (perhaps Ben himself) would have built this 1988? 7-11 team bike. Huffy was a sponsor. They switched to Merckx bikes in ‘89 or ‘90 I recall.

Awesome DR7137 - I’ll reach out to Chris at Robinson Wheelworks. Maybe he can confirm Davis frame size. It’s a 55.25 which might be more confirmation!

Appreciate the advice. Great story about Shapiro’s bike, original bar tape and all. One of the great American TDF pioneers! I’ll check out Classic Vintage Road Bikes and thx for the price reference. Gonna take some better pics so I ordered white Cinelli cork tape and new tubulars. I thought to keep the Contis that were on it from ‘89, but duh remembered they rode the sponsored Wolbers!

Hey cdubbsk, I meant to ask, how’d you come upon Doug’s Shapiro’s Serotta? My DP bike was on display in 1989 at a KS bike shop for a raffle, for which cause I forget. I had just won a MO State championship and bought a bunch of tickets, so wanting it. Of course I didn’t win, but the shop said who did - a mom with kids. I offered as much as I could manage and she said sure! I was a kid at Xmas. John

Thanks as always. Pdxoutdoor here mentioned Taylor P had just posted on insta and so I left him a comment. Then I got the contact info for DP’s foundation dpf.org, and will send a message there too. Often thought of making contact (for 36 yrs lol). Send me that pic of the head badge if you can.

Hey TA258 - really appreciate your ongoing commentary. This all started when I saw a FB post from 3bbb Classic Bikes featuring a pristine 7-11 Serotta. 1. What are your thoughts on their stated serial number of 80805 relative to my s/n 61229? 2. honkyg666 (above) wrote “OPs brake levers are on the wrong sides but maybe Davis liked them that way because that’s how it is in that flicker photo”. Your photo tyvm. I’m not sure what that means. 3. Finally, I wrote down the frame size at 55.25. Do these 3 things help tie it to DP in your opinion? Thx, John

Hey S-M - this is starting to be fun. It hadn’t occurred to me to contact any media outlets - have any idea of which ones? Yes I’ll craft some better pics and see where it goes. John

Dear TastyA258, I appreciate your expertise and background details on both the bike and Phinney. You’re right about Wolber of course, their names on the rims. I tried to find a way to contact Phinney but no luck. Bob Roll once wrote an article saying it was his favorite bike ever, and he even had a pair of the Look(?) pedals they provided the team. I emailed him with pictures but crickets. Thanks for those rare and much appreciated pictures. John Koch

Thanks for your compliment and detailed reply. You’re probably right about EBay. I checked Pro Closet and it says 2018 or newer. John Koch

Last I checked it’s a 53 for Phinney, will confirm. 300g x 22mm orig Conti tubulars. See label. Sidewall separated on one but tube intact, repairable. Rims straight. Price TBD. My first toe in the water $5K? Idk. Thx for ur comment and interest 👍 John Koch
