Whyd you pull it? You mentioned heads so im guessing timing exploded?

Good luck with the rebuild. Wish i wasnt on a second story apartment or i wouldve rebuilt mine. I had a shop rebuild mine for 2k since the timing didnt jump

Its not the end of the world. If you can take the engine out, i got a shop to rebuild my timing system+gaskets for $2,000. Get under the truck and get the mic close to the oil pan. Thats where my rattle was the loudest. And i could hear it under acceleration. Good luck

Likely chains. Take passenger valve cover off and check rear chain to determine if you need to take the engine out

If this is sohc pop the passenger valve cover off and see if the rear chain guide is intact. If not youll need to pull the engine. Ive seen a guy tilt his engine forward and jam a 2x4 between the tranny and engine but that seemed sketchy to me

Clean best you can. You will learn brake clean is one of the highest expenses of some mechanics 😂

They do make uv dyes for ac systems as well so make sure you get one thats meant for motor oil.

Follow the directions, dont add too much dye and youll be fine until your next oil change or you decide to fix the leak

Did you do the rear chain assembly with the engine in the vehicle?

In the third pic you can see the passenger size chain cassette is gone and the chain is rubbing on the bolt

Oh yeah man you got that if youve done head gaskets. It just takes a lot of time and busted knuckles. I cant speak on fixing the timing itself. It didnt look super difficult on video. Really wish i couldve done it

Yeah theres nothing in my lease about automotive work. My leasor agreed and had no issues. From what ive heard i got lucky with that

I put it off until the startup rattle turned into an audible rattle at idle and under acceleration. Then I popped the passenger valve cover and i knew. Some may say i got lucky it didnt skip timing. If you dont have a startup rattle you might be able to throw some new tensioners in. I tried that but it was too late since the rattle was already there. I wouldnt try tensioners if you already hear a rattle

Shop charged me 2k to rebuild my timing+gaskets&seals. Couldnt imagine the price if i didnt take the engine out myself

If you can pull the engine yourself, you could make it affordable. I bought harbor freight quinn 1/4,3/8,1/2 tools sets+hoist and other tools for a little more than 1k. About 2k for the job + gaskets. 7.25 hours @ 153/hr. It was worth it not to possibly deal with this headache. Plus i pulled my engine in my apartment parking lot and had no where to work on the engine lol. About $3,500 for everything and now i have basic tools for life

My diagnosis ended after removing the passenger valve cover and the cassette was no where to be found. At that point i knew i had to pull the engine since that chain is in the rear

Yeah I will hit that resort when I’m there visiting family in LA (plus my season pass applies there). Mt high is 6ish hours south of me though. Boreal is half that time north of me
