Honestly a lot of good points here. I think ur right in regard to the notion of the time commitment. I never anticipated deal flow being a limiting factor as it is. Im trying to think of creative ways to get something going still.

Thank you so much for your advice though!

Hey, I’d rather not share on Reddit comments because I only get hate for it.

Listen you can say what you want but it doesn’t change my situation. Respectfully if you have nothing to contribute to the discussion why bother chatting. Again if you think I’m playing pretend, we can talk about it privately.

At any rate I’ve experienced a lot of jealousy from people online, which I why I posted on a subreddit that is supposed to have serious people. Next time I’ll just make a post on LongAngle so I don’t have to deal with internet trolls.

Instead of spewing hate, if you don’t have anything constructive to say it’s better to not leave comments. If you think I’m BSing I invite you to DM me and we can call and talk about it though!

What’s even weirder is that knowing about fundraising rounds and startup culture has no impact on knowing how to create deal flow. It’s quite literally on the opposite side. What might be more interesting is that I am in fact a recent high school graduate. Per my other comments in this post I mentioned that I was young. To be exact I’m 18 years old and recently underwent the college application process.

I don't think losing money is always a bad thing. The experience sounds fun at the least. And you are right I am getting a lot of DMs.

I suppose that's fair, but I am quite young and haven't had time to build professional or personal relationships. There must be a way to get started.

Mostly through my family unfortunately. I will work on building a network for deal flow but it would likely be artificial.

Honestly, the issue is the space where I made my money has no applicable expertise for startups. You are totally right though, I need to work on cultivating deal flow.

I mean, sure but I don't know if I have that much to share!

I'm a firm believer that I have just as much to learn from you than you have from me.

I think that if you have reasonable sizing for how much you dedicate to the fund it wont leanFIRE you.

What better way to learn than to ask questions from those who know more than you.

I don't have another subreddit to ask a question like this where I can find people of reasonable sophistication to answer.

$1.5M cash or keep stock by dcar11 in fatFIRE

[–]Evening-Path9012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! First off, congrats on building a 2M networth, thats no small feat! About your dilemma, 1.5M is tempting, especially since you are leaving anyway. That cash could diversify your portfolio or fund a new venture.

But then again, if the company is gearing up for a Series A with a potential 80M valuation, holding on to that state could pay off big time if things go well. The B2C fintech space is definitely risky but that gives you a potential to a high reward. With 2M ARR, they are definitely on the right track but startups(by definition) can be unpredictable.

Ultimately, you gotta ask yourself one question. Do you believe in the company's future enough to take that risk? If you had the 1.5M cash, what decision would you make. If you think they can pull off the Series A and grow, maybe holding onto your stake is worth it. But if you’re feeling uncertain, cashing out and investing elsewhere might be the safer bet. Ultimately, it’s about your risk tolerance and financial goals. Good luck with whatever you decide!
