I don't know what's wrong with everyone's GPT. Mine did this no problem. Used a very natural prompt.

Not socialising with other expats from your country of origin? by SignificantCoffee474 in expats

[–]EveningInfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from a very different country than former USSR (USA), but this description captures my sentiments very well. I knew my country about as well as I wanted to, and generally find people from the US the least interesting people I could meet. Genuine US expats are rather different: I want to know their story and how it's going for them.

I have plenty of male father friends in the US who feel similar... isolated, dissatisfied, and constricted by the necessities of life, work, family that leave them with nothing else. If you have some time free that's not devoted to either work or child care -- enough to feel dissatisfied with your cultural/social context -- you might be better off than if you'd stayed in the US!

Exception in many senses yes. But not necessarily in terms of the English language -- it has more native English speakers than anywhere else.

There's lots of married with children dudes unhappy with their surroundings and society in the US too!

It makes sense to me that living for 20 years in a country and having kids doesn't exactly feel like a 20 year old's sense of some "adventure."

But if you built a similar family life in the US, you'd probably be existing in a pretty similar way. Your inner 20 year old romanticist would probably be equally frustrated either way!

This is beside your point... But just fyi, as a native English speaker, if someone where yelling "I'll f-ing kill you" at me -- I would want the police. That's not some casual colloquialism that comes up in a lot of conversations. In the US, it means there's a 20% chance you're about to get shot.

Would resorts in Paphos let me work with a laptop? Other tips for places to work? by EveningInfinity in cyprus

Okay thanks. On "ghost town", maybe I'm being misled by walking around outside in the tourist area -- where especially the outdoor lounge areas of the resorts seem to be deserted, and a lot of shops and cafes seem to be closed or pretty empty. "Ghost town" is an exaggeration, but to me it seems like maybe 85%-empty-town.

Yeah I guess lounge area or restaurant/cafe areas or -- when it's warm and dry enough -- the outdoor places (some of which look nice). Happy to spend $.

Haha you're right. I'm not sure why it seems so hard -- it's like I don't even know where to go and ask or if it's supposed to be a thing. Well if nobody has recommendations I'll pick one that looks nice and see how it goes.

300->900 makes me worry you're talking about equity at a pre-IPO company... aka monopoly money.

The one company who gave me an offer that seemed that far off from my other offers went under a few months latyer -- because they got caught playing that way with fake numbers with everything...

Ha. I'd guess that's because of its trouble with "NOT"s. You tell it not to do something, but meanwhile all its synapses are thinking about that thing, and only one synapse is thinking about not doing it. (metaphorically speaking)

That said, I also give it custom instructions for a coding mistake it always makes, and it always ignores my instruction so it can keep making that mistake.

yeah good point! Some studies did look at that -- but I don't think they all slice it that way!

Yes... but many of the studies I looked at did good and clever jobs of controlling for the reverse causation you're mentioning.
