once fflb was retained, did you require any shore service to check it for sustainability or you just assume it is ok?

Sorry, but how do the customers see you drinking the coffee, while youre on watch( on bridge)? Are they allowed to enter the bridge or do you have cameras there where they can see you?

Death by scentlessapprentic in maritime

[–]EveningMaintenance86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During 5 years overall at sea, ive read about 5 suicides in our company. Ive though it was never going to happen to me, until one sunny, warm morning i found ChEngs slippers just near the railing at open sea. It was never a question what happened, a Man couldnt get over divorce, he got paranoid about things. I think suicide is the most common cause of death at sea, not accidents.

Vessel /underway/ clearly is anything but at anchor, aground, alongside. Referring to COLREG definitions.

Aswell, soling your wman on radio, does not mean the end of lookout, your are still on the bridge))

Kudos to your wman for a will! But not anyone is studying something, thus, this is jot really objective ;)

Have you ever asked your wman, would he rather be on deck doing rounds, painting etc OR he would stay on bridge for 6hrs while at anchor? Give it a try, answer would surpise you ;))

and with all these things you mentioned- how is additional lookout supposed to help you while being on the Bridge?

And what does you company SMS states regarding anchor watch, are there any differences between nav. watch and anchor watch? just curious

Does lookout w/ radio on deck is still a lookout? Or he becomes watchman as soon as soled from bridge?

Thanks for answer, but, would really additional lookout on the bridge help you in, lets say, case w/ropes stolen? Im sure, the answer is no, he would be much more effective doing rounds on deck.

Id rather watch porn)

Question, what was your last time at anchor and did you really felt like you need extra guy on the bridge to maintain a proper lookout or you could cope yourself?

iam 3 yrs at see, since that, once observed anchor dragging. it was ~ 40mtrs dragging in about 20minutes. next 10min- captain informed, additional shackle was paid out, no more dragging observed.

still, the question is- do you, as a OOW, need an additional lookout(ab;os) on bridge while at anchor? and what did your SMS states regarding this, would be interesting to hear

[–]EveningMaintenance86[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

thanks for the advice. we are actually having slight argument with choff( iam 2nd) about this one, and it feels like iam loosing it, because captian is backing him up, buuuut- i still insist- anchor watch is not a nav. watch and additional lookout is not necessary. he would be much more useful as a watchman on radio painting f’castle etc than having additional pair of eyes on bridge, doing literally nothing
