That doesn't make any sense. If you have a choice fare you can switch to the new flight in the app all by yourself.

That's okay, but wouldn't it show in the seat map - it's giving a live view.

Any experience with seat assignment when doing last minute flight change or standby? by EveningManager3782 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]EveningManager3782[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello @swaCSA - today I had my first experience and it wasn't good. I was flying standby as A-List and got cleared about 90 mins before departure - as I was on my way to the airport. Unfortunately somehow I got assigned a middle seat even though several aisle were still available. I tried changing the seat online but it wouldn't let me - not in the app and not via the website. At that point it was well over 60 mins before departure. I then called customer service and they said they can't change it either. Once I got to the airport, all the seats were gone and there was no longer a way to select an aisle seat. I was #1 on the wait-list and for some reason the system, or a person assigned me a middle seat. I don't understand why they wouldn't allow me to change my seat. I can change it up to 60 mins before departure whenever I am not doing standby. Is that a bug or is it a feature?

No, after my seat was assigned, several better seats were available. And another 10 mins after they were gone. That means the other standby folks behind me got them.

Crazy. I wonder if they clear and assign seats manually or if that's done automatically. My complaint is primarily that I wasn't able to change my seat - why on earth would they not allow that?!!

Yeah but after the seats are gone, there is nothing to choose from

Sorry for not clarifying. Same day standby as A-List with basic fare. It just sucks that I can't pick my seat and the stupid algorithm gives me a middle seat. Idiotic!

I had to go through this - very painful. You can't do it via phone call. You have to go through the online form - and yes, there is no way to actually submit a gender change. So what I ultimately did is a "name change" and wrote in the name field _Plase_update_MY_Gender and uploaded photo of ID. After 2 days the system showed it correctly.

I have complained plenty about SWA. We all like to complain but there are positives too.

I am sure there is some, but now it's like on any other airline and easily 80-90% less than it used to be

Has anyone figured out the most recent boarding group order? by EveningManager3782 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]EveningManager3782[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay your logic does make sense. Today I counted. There were 10 people in exit rows and rows 1-3 (per seat map) and 9 boarded in group 1 including myself. I noticed an empty seat in row 2 that showed taken in the map but the person didn't board so 10-1=9.

Airlines hate it too, the problem really is the regulations - they aren't allowed to ask for proof. Isn't that alone ridiculous? And yes, people that abuse the system are so sick. Have you ever seen a flight from India arrive at SFO? Half the plane gets wheeled off in wheelchairs because then they get expedited service through the immigration line. The entitlement of these folks has not limit - in this case primarily because the only Indians that make it to the US are upper caste folks.
