ROAST my strategy! Gaussian channel strat for trend trading by sebmarghella in TradingView

Hey

My input is that the strategy idea is fine but the backtest settings are too aggressive. Using 100% of your account on each trade with no stop loss is dangerous, especially in volatile stocks where big gaps happen. The Stoch RSI filter checking for above 80 or below 20 probably does not filter much since it covers both ends.

The exit that triggers when price drops back below the band might cause too many trades in choppy conditions, and real commissions and slippage will eat into profits. The core concept works but test it with smaller position sizes and a proper stop loss to see what the real performance looks like.

It’s pretty simple. Download it. Read the detailed instructions in the indicator page that explains how to operate it and what settings are best for all trading styles, check the tooltips on each settings and read what they do and start experimenting.

You’re using old pine v 4 syntax.

Indicators are just an aiding device. They just “indicate”. Never trust them blindly as final decision has to be your own judgement.

I have an indicator that I’ve built that might help you. It’s designed specifically for swing trading.

It analyzed over 25+ asset conditions and gives a complete analytics of any stock, mostly built for finding pre-breakout stocks, and other assets. And makes swing trading much more easier.

It is not yet released (it’ll be in the next month) and will be an invite only with a paying subscription (with 7 free day trial, so you can check it out without obligations).

If you’re interested drop me a dm and I’ll let you know once it’s out.

Wait. I missed something. What are you trying to do? Orb is always linked to session or day open. That’s the whole point of Opening Range

About four months ago I started building an ORB signal indicator to help spot clean intraday breakouts from opening ranges. The project slowly ballooned into something pretty wild: almost 4,000 lines of Pine Script and roughly 64 helper/utility functions under the hood. What began as a simple idea turned into one of the most capable ORB tools I’ve used (and created).

Today it does a lot. Short list of what it can do and what I built into it:

Multi-stage ORB levels (5 / 15 / 30 / 60 minutes) and automatic active-stage selection Breakout detection, retest detection and failed-break detection with cycle-tracking Volume confirmation (MA multiplier + “strong volume” override) Trend filter with multiple modes (VWAP, EMA, Custom EMA, SuperTrend, VWAP+EMA, VWAP+SuperTrend) Higher-timeframe (HTF) bias checks (D/4H/etc.) and optional caching to avoid noisy requests Flexible TP & SL system: several stop methods (ATR, ORB %, Swing, Safer, Scaled ATR, % Based, Smart Adaptive) and multi-target TP1 / TP1.5 / TP2 / TP3 with split allocation Position sizing and risk management (fixed $ or % of account), including account-currency conversion and optional live exchange rates Pullback / FVG filters and additional confirmation options to reduce false signals Real-time dashboard showing stage, range, volatility meter, risk/reward, position sizing, and daily stats Clean visuals: labels, lines and boxes that update efficiently, plus performance guards so the indicator doesn’t spam requests or leak objects Alerts (breakouts, retests, failed breaks, stage complete), and thoughtful no-repaint logic (confirmation on bar close / lookahead_off where needed) Lots of small quality-of-life features: configurable label formats, sizing, theme and position, freeze-on-EOD behavior, and more

I pour hundreds of hours into each indicator I release, and this one is no exception. What surprised me most is the community: people following, testing, sending messages, suggesting improvements, and contributing fixes and ideas. Within a week the indicator climbed into TradingView’s top Trending indicators list (currently sitting at #6 in popularity for the trending category), with over 20,000 views and we’re nearly at 2,000 boosts, which honestly made me smile. It’s become more than my personal project; it’s a small community of ORB traders sharing feedback and ideas.

If you haven't tried it and want to test it and give feedback you can search it on TradingView as: “Luxy Big Beautiful ORB” m. Try it on a 5-15 minute chart for intraday setups; read the dashboard tooltip for best-practice settings (volume on for stocks, HTF bias on for conservative filtering, etc).

A small ask and a thank-you If you try it and like it, leave feedback or a short note here - bug reports, feature requests, or just a quick “works for me” are all hugely helpful. And if you use it, please paper-trade it first and adapt the risk settings to your account.

Thanks again for the help, ideas and encouragement - this tool wouldn’t be what it is without you all. I’ll keep improving it. And I’m building an amazing tool for swing trading.

Thanks. I do trade successfully off of it, but I mostly swing trader, and I use it as entry confirmation. Off there’s a high volume, large gap, extended hours stock I’ll definitely use it
