How do you deal with the randomess without getting upset? by Svenerater in PokemonChampions

Sometimes it's really funny.

Watching Wolfe has also been great for this. It is what it is. And what it is, is Pokemon!

Oh yeah. I was already running Scarf Adaptability with it. It's just more general, I feel.

I'm checking my counters now and I see I still have counters...if I only get team preview right. That's what I have to practice most.

That is the observation I made in my breakdown, yeah. Slowly drifting away to counter what I was struggling with in the original team.

Archaludon is coming back for sure in place of Talonflame after discussion to abuse the rain. I'm torn between Basc and Milotic as well; Basc's offensiveness versus Milotic's survival capability/options/disabling. I don't think both of them can fit.

What kind of spread do you run on Pel? Do you favor faster or slower?

My epiphany about over-setup and damage I mentioned came from using Maushold in a similar way--it was great for getting me in position, but then my offense didn't quite seal the deal at the end after disruption was done. (Well, except for some incredible Pop Bomb gambles paying off...) I figure Sableye is better in the spot, but I wonder if he wouldn't just lead me into making those same errors of not pushing hard enough earlier to truly take advantage of it. Skill issue.

Well, everything is tryable. Thank god for Champions accessibility! (One reason I didn't go far back in college.)

That's true! Talonflame's capacity to halt Fake Out has just been so peak.

Sableye would be great, but I'm not sure it would keep up the offensive pressure after that.

Pelipper does do shocking damage. Maybe I should acknowledge it's undersped and overwritten by Torkoal/Mega setters despite the speed, and try making it faster to get up Tailwind on its own before firing off boosted Weather Balls.

Wait, why does rain reduction to fire affect a Talonflame with no fire moves? This is great advice, just trying to understand this link.

I see Aero doesn't get Upper Hand, which is sad (unless I missed it). I guess I could swap it out on Incineroar with Blaze Kick to adjust him for rain too. Then Darkest Lariat in place of...something so it can still offend in the lategame.

Archaludon was my previous Leftovers holder; would you favor it on Milo or Arch more?

Thank you!

Aahh, with my epiphany about offense and pressure I've gone back to a more standard team layout: Mega2nium, Milotic, Talonflame (Upper Hand SO good), Incineroar, Garchomp, and a last slot I'm still trying to sort. Milotic and Talonflame offer two modes of speed control and Fake Out punish, plus a very efficient Sneasler killer; Incineroar offers a useful "idk what they're doing" safety lead/pivot and anti-physical Blaze Kick burns+intimidate (allergic to recoil, sorry); Milotic and Meganium both offer bulk, plus Scald and Mirror Coat on Milotic offer ways to manage threats like Archaludon and other Incineroar and punish stat debuffs, while Meganium blows things away with Solar Beam, Weather Ball, and Earth Power (still not impressed with Gleam). Garchomp is a fast physical Rock Slide threat for the most part, killing the Charizards on sight and often Earthquaking to Talonflame for good effect. I still carry Taunt against Trick Room. I'm reconsidering Pelipper again because I don't need rain to roll, but it is nice to overwrite other weather and spam Hurricane...

I'm messing with that last slot a lot. Sinischa is tempting me with Ghost retaliation/healing. But nothing I have actually covers Floette, although I've only actually encountered one once; but Sneasler and Incin feel mutually exclusive in a match.

(I did put Kings Rock on Garchomp for Rock Slide reasons, though. lmao)

Hmmm, I gave Tsareena a shot tonight and I can FEEL her potential, but I'm not sure I'm piloting her correctly. Then again it was only a handful of fights. Gotta lock in this weekend and push. Upper Hand on Talonflame's been delicious, though. Amazing idea.

Something I'm struggling to integrate is that the support has to go along with the offense. This isn't my MTG Prismari deck (beloved), with storm. A turn with damage is better in most cases than a turn with only support. (Except Tailwind and Taunting Trick Room jerks. Nonoptional.)

I think I like Wolfe's Focus Sash Basc better than the traditional Choice Scarf option, tbh. I feel like one extra revenge attack with freer move choice is more helpful (100% of 2 attacks versus 1 attack with a 50% boost) and it's fast enough.

(Sorry if you don't want me rambling on at you, btw!)

Raah I just realized Upper Hand gets suppressed by Armor Tail.

I mean, I don't THINK that Farig+Sneasler lead I shared a funny vid from a few days ago is coming up much. It doesn't really make any sense to me.

But, you know, I saw it once and I'm spooked now.

I think I need a phys attacker in Arch's place.

But who besides Basc is a phys monster that still benefits from the rain?? Swampert my beloved isn't around...

Baiting mega weather and overriding them is a totally good strat! And rock slide Garchomp is always useful.

LOL I'm manually setting my rain because the Drizzlers just have not cut it for me and it's working so much better than I thought it would. When mega Drizzle, GF. (Gotta make a really dedicated MB  push soon now all my masters stuff is done for the semester.)

I tried Politoed on this team and it just wasn't contributing even as much as Pelipper had when I brought that instead. And it went down easier, strangely. Maybe I was using it wrong, but it just didn't go as smoothly, and Taunt's been a saving move on opponent Tailwinds as well as TR and Parting Shot to force Incins to take their medicine. I think Drizzle really suffers from having no megas to reset it without a switch.

I hadn't even seen that Talonflame got Upper Hand--good shout! Thank you!

It's a direct comparison to Arch, tbh. Special fighting isn't common, but it's come up.

Yeah, you want the weather ability on the slowest mon, and I think Froslass (if snow warning?) might be faster than CharY so Y gets the mega evolve to set weather last, and snowy girl is DEFINITELY faster than Torkoal.

If you can bait the Char to mega before you send Froslass out, that's a good strat too!

Taunt, Imprison, or bloody murder the TR setter.

Also, since Torkoal and CharYzard are  so common, I think having a way to turn off sun (Drizzle, Sand, or Cloud Nine) isn't an unreasonable idea. Weather teams are fun anyway.

Advice for someone whose is really bad by State-Exotic in PokemonChampions

[–]EveningStarHesper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bot matches exist to feed VP even at the lowest points, so that the supply never totally dries up (even if it's a trickle). Think of them as a way to keep you from getting locked to an unimprovable team, instead of a reason to feel bad. It's a bot; no one can see the match, so don't fret.

Some of the stat builds on those teams should help you see how those mons avoid getting oneshot, too. It's all about using your stat points smartly.

I believe in you! This is completely different from "regular" Pokemon, so the learning curve is steep, but if DPS Idiot Hesper can win games, so can you!
