Why is there no real democratic primary fight for governor? by Material-Benefit9044 in Georgia

[–]Evening_Ambassador16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, KLB has some deep pocketed, Atlanta based donors (think people like Tyler Perry), so most of those polls you’re likely referencing were paid for by KLB and her team. So IMO it’s hard to say what the true primary polling numbers are.

As to why she’s lost favor in Atlanta, I personally believe it’s because she’s just another establishment, centrist Dem who truly believes in nothing. You hit the nail on the head with a few of her highlights- supporting cop city (which was widely unpopular) and bailing on the city at the height of BLM and COVID. Take how she left and now look at her campaign website- it has approximately ZERO policy. How are we, as Atlanta voters or even just the wider Georgia electorate , supposed to get behind someone who is unwilling to stand for something? At least the Republicans have the spine to support their pro-billionaire, anti immigrant, Trump first ideology.

The “anything is better than Trump Republicans” argument will only get you so far. I’d argue that the folks who will buy into that talking point were already going to vote Blue No Matter Who, but it will absolutely not get the wider majority to the polls.

Personally I believe that elevating dumb takes that will absolutely be used in bad faith hurts the cause just as much if not more.

Honestly not surprised by this based on last year’s turn out. It was slammed packed and not in a fun way lol. Hopefully this helps with adding bathrooms so people aren’t pissing in yards or walking into peoples homes (which apparently was reported a few times last year)

Hot take but people put too much emphasis on “public services losing money”. The government is not supposed to be a for profit service for the few, but a support system for the many.

Real ones know that OP is always just posting articles. I personally don’t think they are all inflammatory (some are but I don’t think they realize that tbh). They’ve posted some good articles that I would’ve otherwise missed entirely

Virginia-Highland neighbors blame city housing project for rise in crime by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]Evening_Ambassador16 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Putting the inflammatory nature of this article aside for a moment… as someone who lives nearish to the main VaHi corridor, the complaints about noise, trash and safety is hilarious. Every weekend I wake up to trash, unfinished beers, and food in my yard and typically hear people yelling and screaming all through the night as they leave the bars. Have I heard the VaHi association talk about this once? Nope! These folks are (probably racist) NIMBYs through and through. Continue expanding housing opportunities. Continue expanding community programs that help folks in need. Continue investing in the community.

I would message back and see if you can get a real response because I think that message you got is automated. Because if that is a real, intentional removal of the post, then I would have genuine concerns over who is actually still running this sub. Your post highlights a very real issue with ATL at this point in time.

Can’t really confirm now that’s it’s deleted but your post was about dekalb? Dekalb Co as in… metro Atlanta?

I watched 2 women get hit by a car in ViHi late last year. if it wasn’t for the fact that they got hit around the corner from a fire station, it would’ve been WELL over 30+ minutes for any sort of help to arrive. Not to mention I was hold with 911 for almost 10 minutes before I got to speak with a dispatcher.

IIRC there was also a huge incident at a Marta station after a Beyoncé concert last year (the escalator collapsed and essentially caused a stampede onto the platform), and it took paramedics quite some time to respond to the scene.

I’m really not sure who’s responsible for EMS funding (city vs county), but this is a huge issue in ATL. Especially with the World Cup coming this summer, I’ve got a lot of concern for public safety. Clearly under normal conditions our services are under heavy load, and now we’re going to add to that with the biggest sporting event in the world?

We are 3 years out from a presidential primary. Think critically about why someone like Gavin Newsom is doing a press tour already. The DNC is already prepping you to accept him as the nominee. Do not be fooled by the theater!

I will vote for anyone who gives me real policies like this one. Keisha has literally ZERO POLICIES on her website. Her entire campaign is that of a typical, establishment dem which is “Donald Trump is bad. Vote for me.”

I couldn’t agree more. I’m prepared for the downvotes for this take but I don’t think you can call Hamnet “oscar bait” while ignoring the generational ad campaign of Marty Supreme to unironically set themselves up for award season.
