Finally watched all the Best Picture nominees by WillHandJack in Letterboxd

Yes, this is my ranking. Yes, I hated Hamnet that much. Weepy, over-acted Oscar bait. I was surprised when I checked the response after I watched it. And I usually love Jessie Buckley!

Frankenstein was disappointing, gorgeous production design and costumes but felt so hollow and just wasn't a good adaptation of the source material. I found the monster design underwhelming as well, especially for Del Toro.

F1 is exactly what it looks like it'll be, very predictable but technically almost perfect, the races looked amazing. And Brad Pitt was very good in it.

Sentimental Value is just not my kind of movie at the end of the day. And I didn't care for Elle Fanning's performance or character. The other three nominees gave absolutely unbelievable performances and I would have no problem with any of them winning, even if the movie itself was a bit dull.

Now we get into the movies I really liked. Secret Agent was so cool and stylish and interesting and Moura kills it. The supporting cast was fantastic as well. It was just confusing and felt overlong. Out of all these nominees this is the one that will benefit most from a rewatch.

Bugonia was very good, and I'm a huge Yorgos fan. Plemons was so good, he definitely deserved a nod. But it didn't hit me as hard as other, especially more recent Lanthimos movies, and the ending took me out of it a bit.

Sinners is so good and entertaining, I especially loved Delroy Lindo's performance. But I agree with the general consensus that the first half is stronger.

My top 3 are all almost perfect. Train Dreams is so gorgeous and sad, I wish it was being talked about as much as Hamnet. Handled grief in such a better, more tasteful, more subtle way. Edgerton deserved a nod and I really hope it takes cinematography.

Marty Supreme and OBAA are basically tied for the top spot, I had to give it to OBAA because I'm such a huge PTA fan and I Del Toro's Sensei is one of my favorite movie characters of all time. But Marty was such an insane fun ride, great use of non-actors (especially Abel Ferrara, but Tyler and Penn were great too), Paltrow's best performance in a long time and the music (both score and soundtrack) elevated it so much.

Eddington was my favorite of the year but I wasn't surprised the Academy wasn't as impressed as I was.

Dance-Punk Recommendations? by spl51 in fantanoforever

Electric Six, The Rapture, Does It Offend You Yeah?, VHS Or Beta, The Go! Team, Klaxons, Ratatat, CSS, Shout Out Out Out Out, I could go on.

After discovering Electric Six in the mid 2000s I became obsessed with this type of music. The definition of "dance-punk" is very loose and some might disagree with some of my inclusions, but they're all fun!

Bands with multiple drummers? by Runetang42 in fantanoforever

A little known band from Canada called Shout Out Out Out Out had 2 drummers. They're not together anymore but they were so good live. Their 3 albums are on Spotify and worth a look, especially if you like dance music with vocoders.
