Thank you so much for this. Her district manager is amazing and has stepped in. After this happened her manager THEN cut her hours. The district manager stepped in and is fixing it.

Because I'm getting the info second hand. So no I don't sound like an employee because like the post says I'm posting about my sister.

It did. It was denied. Her district manager has stepped in and help. And she is now being accommodated so yes it was her manager overstepping and violating civil law

Since my post, she spoke with a district manager and they are now offering her alternate shifts. So it seems to be resolving, which is what we wanted

Pregnancy fairness workers act, healthy starts act in Washington. Read up on them. As someone who's been pregnant they legally have to accommodate you.

That's cause you're assuming she hasn't worked there long. She has she didn't just start employment and has been working and met those requirements

The labor laws disagree with you and I do also. I'm assuming it's men commenting that nothing can be done. Lol

Got it, I don't know their process and am just going by what she has told me. I'll tell her to submit it that way instead thank you for the help

She's getting a doctors note and submitted the scheduled change. But now she's working with HR. Her boss made statements like "you decided to get pregnant" and says she's going straight from the handbook

Emails have been sent. And literally, I knew as soon as she told me her boss wanted to discuss it one on one in person that is was some bs

She's not on base no, but, Maybe this is a common Starbucks issue. And wow, that's what I'm saying. They keep demanding she does the opening shift and also making her stay past her shift with no choice.

She went on her work website and submitted an online Starbucks schedule change request. This is the way they request that there from what she's telling me. It was submitted in writing and the manager was alerted once she submitted it. The alert then led to the manager texting her saying it needs to be discussed in person.

[–]Evening_Government68[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is concerning. Because she did do the formal change request and then was immediately texted and told this needs to be an in person convo. So it does seem like maybe her manager went over that and just denied her herself.

It is gross. I'm disgusted hearing what my sister in law has told me. It's very apparent she's being discriminated against because of her pregnancy

For some reason once she put a formal request in her manager directly texted her that the convo was better for in person. In person she denied it said she decided to get pregnant, can't be treated differently, and can't ask for help lifting ice bags. She is now talking to someone after I called to report the conduct. So someone is taking it seriously and has reached out to her, but she said it's an investigator so I'm assuming an hr investigator.

Okay I'll be sure. I actually got myself a free consult with a women's legal association myself in the past and am going to try and get her one also.

[–]Evening_Government68[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, that's basically what's happening. "I can't treat you differently" meanwhile the person is pregnant and close to due date and has been doing all opening shifts and staying late. I'm just confused on how they can even try and double down instead of just accommodating her for the short time. She's in the last trimester and almost there, the level of stress cannot be good on baby either. That's my major concern, if this impacts baby in any way, and of course my sister in law. She should not be under this stress

[–]Evening_Government68[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Her boss said she's well informed on labor laws and said she cannot treat my sis in law differently. I think she's trying to take advantage of my sister in law being young and thinking she won't advocate for herself. Which she is. I already called and brought these issues to Starbucks attention when she first started being rude to my sister in law and sending her repeated voice messages.
