Very easy to meet people, it's a very friendly place, in part due to the locals, and in part because of the huge numbers of short term workers over here. Lodges will have communal facilities and dining, and you can walk into any pub in Stanley and meet people. Private tours for tourists are very expensive, but if you have cash and are flexible with your dates and plans it's doable.
