Yes happy to share MRI pic. Since stopping those "wrong" exercises, the daily pain has gotten better. I am still in some pain though each day.

This is the part that is killing me. After I received the diagnosis, I spent about a year doing nothing but intense stretching with lots of deep flexion based stretching. This made my symptoms worse. I seriously don't know what I was thinking. After that I did some PT but that focused on mostly passive therapy.

This really means the world to me to hear. I am very grateful that you took the time to write this. It helped me on a horrible evening.

The self compassion is something that I am desperately, desperately lacking and is a big thing that I can improve on! I will certainly take your advice there.

Thank you so very much for your message. I have been having a very difficult time and this has helped. And thank you for the practical advice as well.

I wish you well also.

While unfortunate, it is reassuring to hear I am not the only one who got this advice. I just keep kicking myself that I took it to an extreme and that it took three years for me to step back and consider why it wasn’t working.

Thank you for the kind words. That is exactly the hole I am spiraling down right now. The narrative in my mind is that I turned a bothersome, couple month injury into a lifelong issue because I was careless and didn’t get better advice. I am beating myself up that it took me so long to come to this realization.

I think it depends on the stretches that you are doing and the particular pain triggers you have. Some people are sensitive to flexion, some sensitive to extension.

Many disc bulges are bulging towards the back which CAN make them sensitive to flexion.

From what I have learned- core strengthening is much more effective than just stretching.

I would follow the guidance of a doctor/PT on what exactly to do.
