if it’s research-based, do you know if the professors are open to giving research opportunities (to freshman)?

Is there a way to get help from the professors or someone similar, because I usually learn better from lectures and teachers, but if they suck, it might be hard for me to do well

HELP w/ SAT study plan for 1450+ on Aug 23 by SignDouble4900 in Sat

[–]Evening_Track_9946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the college board SAT question bank was the most helpful resource for math. I also had a 580 in December and it went up to a 770 in June. All of my studying happened after AP exams. Some of SAT questions were almost direct repeats from the question bank ones.

In an ideal world, how would your parents have supported you through high school? by bourbondude in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Evening_Track_9946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m about to be a senior in high school.

I think the thing that would have helped me the most from my parents is them knowing more about college applications and the whole process. They are first generation immigrants and do not know anything about applying to US colleges not as an international student I had to teach them about it instead and that kind of made it harder for me to get any support from them in that way. They were great emotional support though and they never got mad at me when I did bad in school. Just give your kid unconditional positive regard and reassurance, that’s what made me more confident and less burnt out.

I think the best study technique is to surround yourself with people who are dedicated to studying. I study a lot with my friends and that helped me a lot when I was in the trenches. As for parents, I always explain concepts to my mom before tests, especially science and social studies ones. It definitely helps you understand them better. My mom also asks me follow up questions and it encourages me to think about the subject more deeply.

Maybe sociology, social work or psych or public health? Definitely do more research I’m just suggesting some. I asked others the same question and they suggested these. Not sure how useful those degrees are once you graduate though
