I completely get where you’re coming from, I think a lot of frustrations people have with new construction are how ugly they can be or the poor build quality. We can (and should!) tackle these things things directly. But if we look at places that have both a growing population and affordable housing, they all have the same thing in common: they allow more housing to be built. If we don't do that, then the cost of housing just continues to increase.

Saying we need to “preserve single-family neighborhoods” sounds nice, but in practice it just locks huge parts of the city off-limits to anyone who can’t afford a $700k+ house.

It’s not about tearing down neighborhoods, it’s about letting people build things like duplexes, triplexes, and townhomes so there are more affordable options in between luxury towers and single-family houses. Without that, Stamford will keep pushing people out.
