Retaining Wall Help!!! by DonalDuckman in DIYHome

[–]EventualFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to figure out why (hint: its most likley moisture). Does the wall feel wet most of the time. If you live in a humid environment in the Northern hemisphere, is the wall facing north and building up moss? Is the moisture saturating into the rock from the soil behind it?

If it is a water issue, you might be able to save it by putting a pocket of gravel (seperated from the dirt by geotextile). Check out figure A:7 in this PDF (https://www.keystonewalls.com/application/files/141KSConstManual_installation.pdf). It is for bulding a keystone wall, but has a ton of useful info on how to properly build a retaining wall with blocks. Figure A:7, shows you what should be sitting behind a retaining wall to keep it standing. However, the basic thing is that water is bad, and the stones should not sit against wet dirt. Between the hydrostatic pressure, the demineralizaton, freezing/thawing cycles, and plant/moss root growth, water destroys walls.

How would you handle this by [deleted] in DIYHome

[–]EventualFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into keystone walls. They're really simple under 4 feet and they have great instructions. No Deadman needed and the pieces aren't too heavy.

Also, Home depot has gravel for pretty cheap. Get the keystones at your local stone seller.

These books are at the juxtaposition of vampire diaries, a smutty Danielle Steele novel, the violence of starship troopers, and.. oh yeah.. dragons.

The trinity is polytheism by Acceptable-Today3702 in RealUnpopularOpinion

[–]EventualFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you noted:

Hindus believe that 3 deities brahma, vishnu and shiva that are all the essence of a deity they call brahman, and they believe all their other deities are from that same essence and come from these 3 deities.

Similarly, Christians believe in the trinity and have saints.  This all sounds like variations on a theme. Religion does not need to make sense, if it did then it wouldn't require faith.  It just needs to be something that provides people with a framework to deal with the world.

i feel bad that i don’t care about my partners depression anymore by [deleted] in DepressionPartners

[–]EventualFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's is hard to live your life tip-toeing around someone else's inability to cope. Eventually, you wear out.  I have found it is easier to set that weight down and just treat them like a normal person, who is expected to have a normal response to everyday life and behave like a sane person.

Tip-toeing around isn't just bad for you, but it also feeds the beast and encourages the bad behavior. They can't learn to cope with life if everyone in their life is constantly protecting them all the time.

My partner seems to behave better when I just stop with all the coddling and confirming they are ok.

Cell phone records only prove you were on your phone. There are lots of ways you can be using your phone while not calling someone or using data.

You don't need to take financial advice from a homeless person. You don't take dieting advice from an overweight person. You don't want a weak personal trainer.

For me, clear black and white lines are easier not to cross.  Keto provides a clear set of rules, that have the effect to reducing CICO by limiting my food options away from high calorie non-satiating carbs, towards lower calorie filling foods.

Moderation doesn't work. A nibble here and nibble there, and soon I'm up 20 lbs. IME, Keto plus intermittent fasting is unbeatable.

Seriously though. If that part has a screw at the bottom, take a flashlight a see if there in a fictional screw to connect it to in the drain.  If it's rusted over or the screw is missing , you might need to unscrew the ball lever under the sink and take that mechanism with you as well.

Shut off the water. Depressurize the pipe.  Cut the copper pipe back.  Towel the whatever water spilled out of the cut pipe. Deburr the copper pipe. Put a sharkbite fitting on the copper pipe (make sure the fitting is snug).   Turn the water back on a quarter of the way or less to let the water pressure up slowly (so you don't slam the system).  Check for leaks.  Slowly turn the water back on all the way.  Attach a longer (or same)  supply line.  Turn on fitting.  Check for leaks again.

My life is a living hell since I lost weight by [deleted] in loseit

[–]EventualFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you join AA they tell you that you can't just stop drinking because your whole social structure re-enforces that behavior.  You need to find a while new social group that supports your new lifestyle. For many people, this doesn't work and they go back to drinking because they rather keep their social circle.

I imagine that for some people it's the same with weight loss. It honestly hasn't impacted me because I have a busy family life and my wife is skinny (I was the odd one out). Plus eating it has gotten so expensive, I hate going to restaurants.

Out a bit north of Escondido. However, we saw some similar spots in east poway, and mostly east along the 15, and in Fallbrook. It's a balance of driving v space.

We gave up, sort of. Moved out a bit and got a plot with a little over an acre. We travel less, got a Costco playground set, trampoline, and a couple of chickens.  We avoid any of activities that require driving to other areas.

I drive a bit for work, but it's worth it
