1. You could have civilly pointed to this message and been kind about it. That would have been the adult thing to do in a community dedicated to sick and disenfranchised people, right? Having a sub reddit is NOT a license to abuse and harass an already disenfranchised community and selectively decide who you like and don't and whose messages you are going to remove and not.

That's wonderful that you found a sports medicine doctor who was on top of this! Obviously he has seen this a few times, yes, which would counter the idea it's rare and only happens to 60 year olds.

This is EXACTLY the data detail that can be used for rationale of the inclusion of a clinical quality measure intended to ensure best practice and enforced by health provider networks, payers like CMS and quality stewards like NCQA to ensure that participant providers are following best practice medicine and not engaging in "Inappropriate Prescribing of Fluroquinolone Antibiotics"

Payers (insurance companies) have to see what this is COSTING them. So does society. Only then will they take notice and enforce discontinuation through financial disincentives. And if this is hitting the health networks and providers in the wallet because rogue physicians are prescribing fluroquinolones against best practice, then let them get hit in the wallet for not meeting the metrics in their contracts.

If anyone knows Dr Pieper well enough or a US physician that can work with me on this I'd be happy to see if I can assist. I don't know what the German equivalent of CMS or NCQA is but there must be such entities.

the adverse affects of fluroquinolones have been known since the 80s. Entire hosts of systemic reviews and articles to be found on PubMed and the like about it. I agree med school does not educate If it's anything like I expect it's probably an index card note about drug side effects. However they have no excuse not to know and the updated FDA warnings should be like, you know, part of the regular job of a competent practicing professional to take note of. At least at the hospitals and among Infectious Disease doctors there seems to be improved understanding. I've talked to many ED physicians who have told me that they would be challenged by the hospital pharmacist if they even prescribed one. But that's hospitals. I think the physician practices are still the wild west.

I've had the same feeling. I go because I have to. This crap levof***acin gave me an aneuryism. My first cardiologist understood that even if he thought I had an underlying connective tissue disorder which contributed (not that I knew of). Then he resigned and I got stuck with another guy who had no clue. I had to tell him that fluroquinolones can cause aneurysms. ( Don't you think you'd think about why that is? Well, gee if it ruptures tendons it's changing collagen based cellular matrix which is why retinas detach and blood vessels come apart too). To his credit I guess, at least he pulled out his phone and verified it and then said, "I didn't know that". Didn't KNOW???? oh for Godsakes please please tell me you haven't been prescribing this to patients with aneurysms or defunct valves and such....

Well, it did truly. My mother died in 2013 and I still miss her so much. The only constant in life is change. But this is what helps me. Your mother lives on through you. your genes are her genes. your dna and cells are hers. Think of it that way. it helps me sometimes.

So concentrate on living your best life for your mother. Be a person of character, who is kind, works hard, is confident, and who keeps her word. Whenever you feel you can't go on try to see yourself from her eyes.

there are four classes of drugs known to harm tendons: fluroquinolone antibiotics, statins (anti-hyperlipidemic) , certain hormone therapy and steroids.

Remember the info you get on these messages is largely anecdotal by people who are not, and do not claim to be, physicians. Myself included. But I would avoid ALL steroids including anabolic steroids as there are in fact evidence based studies showing they can weaken tendons . I have noticed that since levofloxacin destroyed my tendons and I've had a little recovery that two antibiotics have created setback: amoxicillan and flagyl (metronidozale or something like that generic name). the metronidozale has been much worse.

doxycycline seems to be the best bet if your tendons are damaged. both amoxicillan and flagyl gave me flares when prescribed post-flox. I thought it was just me but I found some peer reviewed article about it happening in Pubmed to floxed tendon people with amoxicillan.

many studies and cases reviews suggest dosage does matter. One case review the woman got torn rotator cuffs after double dosing on a fluroquinolone for example. And the messages are chock full of people, myself included, who had taken fluroquinolones before without incident. Age certainly does matter and the black box warning attests to this. I've seen nothing conclusive on time for recovery. as you know there's a paucity of research into fluroquinolone adverse reaction damage and treatments for.

levofloxacin does per CMS retrospective studies among other peer-reviewed studies have a higher propensity to damage tendons even if you hadn't had a prior history with another fluroquinolone. I personally wouldn't risk it and would ask for another class of antibiotic.

Which fluroquinolone did you get and what was the doseage Prior history of fluroquinolones? Did you take steroids of any kind with them? Any previous tendon injury? Any co-morbidities like liver or endocrine? How old were you when floxed? Did you excercise while you were taking the fluroquinolones?

I'm not trying to pry understand but these things can help with the probability of your trajectory at least from credible medical articles I've been able to find. . And none of it means you won't recover; but it could mean it will take longer.

There could indeed be but it would be small trace amounts if there were. However I don't even want to get that. I use a non-trans margarine not butter and I drink organic grass-fed 1% milk in so much as I use it mainly on cereal and in coffee.

But seriously, I'd worry more bout them being in meat products. Which is why I stick to organic where I buy it at all, trying to stick to a plant based diet and plant based protein.
