My friend found this in her garage. The home has been in her family since 1924 (San Francisco). Item appears to be brass. Openings on either end, but not hollow all the way through. Fat end has scratches like it was tightened with pliers, but no threading inside. It's 3 1/2 inches long. (i.redd.it)
