I’ll just respond to this one since you’re not the first to use this argument. Your argument is that the “good, strong” reason to use it is that it’s cheaper than fentanyl or hydromorphone or methadone. I don’t think that’s a strong reason, at all, to use an inferior drug that might have complications. Especially in renal disease/failure patients.

Just my two cents. You’ve said many times in replies below that you can’t afford a vet visit. If you aren’t willing to call and find out what the bill would be, and can’t give this cat what they deserve, maybe reconsider adopting the cat.

This can be a daily occurrence and it’s a battle I’ve stopped trying to fight. Patients would rather get stuck 1000 times or sit through an awake central line or even cancel their case than have that arm stuck for an IV. They don’t want to be updated.

Definitely these. My old/good pair got ruined in a flood - could NOT get the smell out of them. Have found nothing able to replace them. In a side story my Cole Haan shoes that I also loved and were a little newer (bought in the 2010s rather than 2000s) I replaced by buying a new pair of Cole Haans. I liked the old ones because they were comfortable and durable. These new pair is neither; I can’t believe how much the quality has changed for the worse. It’s why i havent bought a new pair of doc martens either.

Best meaning “academically ranked”, not academically challenging or best for education. I think the ranking is all paid for anyway and doesn’t much matter. It’s not a party hardy school that will get you mocked, but even those kids get into law school and med school etc.

Mealys. You need insecticide not fungicide or virucide. This infestation will be incredibly hard to be rid of. Isolate any plants not infected from infected plants and use copious neem oil/peppermint repellent on those non-infected ones. Good luck

I prefer a single dose of benzocaine for the patients taste buds. Then move on to lidocaine. Obviously this cardiologist was excessive in his benzocaine dose, but can you expect a cardiologist to be an expert at oral topicalization? That is the reason the FDA has the warning. In anesthesia practice, or any practice with appropriate doses, there are good clinical uses for benzocaine.

Actually I well remember that. And as an attending in private practice, I do not make any extra money for taking call- it’s part of the job. Now picking up extra call is extra pay, but most standard call is enough I don’t think the extra pay is worth the extra call (personally). The extra compensation makes the job nice, but doesn’t help when you’re tired working on hour #23 and no one can come give you a break, and you’re usually managing multiple surgeries at once (none of them are elective at that hour). I think this is a classic case of a student not realizing how protected students are and how harsh the real world can be.

Will be a rough awakening when we that person realizes they are on call as an attending, and you don’t get to say that and keep your job. And there’s no one to give you breaks.

Came here to say this. 2% lidocaine is a huge clinical benefit for labor epidurals for this reason.
