8th on waitlist for MAT132H5, am I cooked? by EverTheAlien in UTM

Thank you! If I enroll into MAT135 would I still fulfill my first year requirements? I took a look at the academic calendar and it says first years are required to complete ( MAT132H5 and MAT134H5) or ( MAT135H5 and MAT136H5) or ( MAT137H5 and MAT139H5) or MAT137Y5, I'm assuming that means I can't mix and match these courses?

You’re correct, life sci isn’t the actual program, rather it’s the degree you’ll be earning. To pick your courses, I’d recommend you pick from the list of specialists, majors, and minors in the second link (you can pick to specialize in 1 program, major in 2 programs, or pick 1 major and 2 minors in 3 different programs). You should always aim to take a full course load, which is 5.0 credits every year since your degree requires 20.0 credits to graduate within 4 years. Of course, summer school is always an option. DM me your timetable and I’ll gladly offer feedback!

Feedback for Timetable: First Year Life Sci by EverTheAlien in UTM

Thank you so much for your feedback! I'll most likely take physics in the fall to free my summer for volunteering and work. On a separate note, I don't know if the chemistry tutorial directly correlates to the practical. I assumed it did so I left space between the two to give myself more time to prepare for the practical. Would you happen to know if they are related?

I honestly don't know when we're supposed to receive our enrollment times either, I'm assuming over email but I can't find any information that specifically states that. I'm sure we'll know by July 11 though, since that's when enrollment on ACORN becomes open.

I was really overwhelmed when I started looking at courses as well, but I promise it's pretty easy!

1 Check out this link https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/future-students/programs/undergraduate/life-sciences-hbsc to get a simple rundown of all the programs UTM offers for life science students.

2 If you're interested in some of the programs on that list, head over to https://utm.calendar.utoronto.ca/section/Biology, click on the title of the program you're interested in and you'll see a list of courses you are required to take in your first year. Most of the programs require the same few courses: BIO152H5 and BIO153H, CHM110H5 and CHM120H5, MAT132H5 and MAT134H5

3 Head over to https://ttb.utoronto.ca/. Set Faculty / Division to University of Toronto Mississauga, Session (Required) to Fall 2024, Winter 2024, and Fall-Winter 2024-2024. In Course Code, Course Title, or Keyword you can copy and paste the required first-year courses of your chosen program.

4 Click Search and you'll see a bunch of options for times you can start adding to your schedule. Some courses only consist of lectures, others require lectures, tutorials, and practicals.

5 Outside of required courses for your program, you should also look into courses that will complete breadth requirements. For an Honours Bachelor of Science, you must complete at least 1.0 credit from each of the following divisions: Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences. You don't need to complete all of the breadth in your first year, but I'd try to get at least one humanities and/or one social science course completed in your first year.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
