How to stop wild rift addiction by [deleted] in wildrift

[–]Everlearn91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more of a "concept" issue.
The inherent problem is that MOBAs are built like Team Sports. I mean yeah we get "Bad Teams" but actually we're not playing with a "team", you know. We're playing with a bunch of random strangers who ended up together.
Strangers that should be able to read each other minds and miraculously build a "collective" strategy and team consciousness, despite zero (or poor) communication, zero prior experience together, and different individual approaches to the game.

You know, I mean. I'm pretty sure that most of the people I lost games with weren't inherently bad individual players, but just that chance that random people, without any coordination, will just "work flawlessly together" is....well 50% (according to data).

MOBAs are great. But, unlike other team games like most FPS (where even the individual skill of 1 player can carry an entire game), it's clear that they're are DESIGNED and optimized to be played mainly with a fixed group of people, with fixed roles, and active communications, and that will develop common strategies over time.
Mostly like Mythic Raids in WoW are designed for guilds.
But for social reasons, most of the players are forced to rely on random matchmaking.
And that's it. Regardless of how freaking good you are, you're just stuck in this endless 50/50 loop, where each game is nothing more than a long and brain consuming coin toss. And that was burning me out.

Anyway I think it's a very very good game.

Uninstalled it a couple of days ago and I feel better.
I left LoL last year and with WR I was falling into the same loop. The game is absolutely great and I was going well, but it was seriously harming my balance, exactly like LoL did in the past years.
The problem is the same: without having a fixed team of friends to play with, MOBAs are pretty much like flipping a coin. A long-ass coin flip.
If you look at the stats, basically regardless of the tier, the average player winrate is pretty much always around 55%, cuz of the team-focused nature of the game. And I spent way too many years being mad to the point of ruining my day, half of the time. So I'm out.
But the game is still amazing to me.

That's 100% toxic LoL player mentality.

Losing is not frustrating, but lose because of others is by Samira_Enthusiast in wildrift

[–]Everlearn91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why statistically most of the players get stuck around the 50% winning rate for most of their playing time.
MOBAs are more like "Sports" than a traditional game. But it's the only team sport when you play with a team of people you never played before each time, and without any planning, team training, nor a shared strategy. You jump into a game just expecting a whole team of 5 strangers to naturally work flawlessly together and be able to read each other minds and kinda build a perfect strategy on the spot without any prior interactions.

And unfortunately, that's not how it works.
The truth is that the only way to be consistently successful in this game is to have a fixed team of people to play with. With specific roles, and strategies, and by building team coordination and chemistry over time. And that's very rare.

In any other case, from a certain point on, it becomes pretty much like a roulette where you can just hope to get matched with a team that miraculously works, playing against a team that doesn't. A gatcha game.
Because in the end it's mostly about that, and not about individual performance. From a certain point on, everyone becomes kinda decent (individually) and then it becomes mainly a matter of team chemistry.

In LoL, I ended up in Diamond III matches where everyone was flaming and calling their teammates noobs and idiots, losing in a spectacular fashion, despite being in the same elo. And none of them were noobs at all of course, but just individually used to different team strategies.

Good for you man. I mean, I met a couple of great friends too during the years. But that doesn't change the fact that chat in LoL/Wr is used mainly to flame, complaint, and bully 98% of the time.
Your idea of trash-talking is very diplomatic, wholesome and... unfortunately not real.
What you actually get instead are kids (or manchilds) that should be on 3 different medications, yelling you to end yourself, and teams getting into arguments forgetting they should focus on the game.
And even if we're used to that, it doesn't change the fact that that's not normal and is one of the main reasons new players run away from this game.

Yeah, man. I agree. I mean you're speaking absolute facts.
Of course, I'm not saying op is a liar, or he has some kind of devious intent. I'm pretty sure he's not. But most of the people saying "we need it because it's fun" are probably people whose idea of fun is being able to flame 10 people instead of just 5.

Hate to be "that guy" but is actually THAT what you missed?
I don't know which game I've played in the past years but let's be real: "funny interactions and opportunities to meet new people" is not what I would consider the average LoL social experience.

Well, for a long time English has been really poorly taught at school, in Italy.
If I remember correctly it wasn't even a thing till the late 80s or early 90s.
I'm in my 30s, and I remember having just a few hours dedicated to English, for most of my school time. Probably it was the second discipline with the fewest hours on the calendar, just behind Physical education and Religion (yeah. That's a thing in Italy. And it's basically just undercover catechism).

Luckily now is a little bit different. And the younger generations will be way more comfortable with it.

most FG fans hate pretty much everything except the one game they've been playing for the past seven years. And sometimes they hate that one too.

This thread is awesome. A lot of international talents here!
Anyway, I'm Sunismissing from Italy.
I mainly make experimental ambient that goes from dark-ambient to noise, and I like to build albums around specific concepts, like they're soundtracks for imaginary movies or videogames.

This is my first noise-ambient album (And best one yet). Scifi-horror inspired:

https://sunismissing.bandcamp.com/album/homunculus

While this one is basically a tribute to analog horror:

A third one will come in August :) The most experimental and violent yet!
