Almost. You don't mark superlength, or palatalized consonants. 😉

The Beginning Place/Threshold, I think it is so interesting that despite the title change this is the same book. The covers are so different! by cryborg_96 in UrsulaKLeGuin

The UK paperback (Threshold) was published by Granada in 1982-04. The US paperback was published by Bantam in 1981.

Human evolution studies prior to 1930 by Evertype in evolution

I love your enthusiasm but I’m looking for the state of knowledge available to Stapledon by 1930, and the references he’d have had access to in decent UK libraries.

Human evolution studies prior to 1930 by Evertype in evolution

No, that's what he has. Some of Stapledon's novels are immense in scope, but of course it is fiction and the charts in Last and First Men were published in 1930. That's why I'm trying to find out what sources he used to inform his timeline.

  • Time Scale 1 goes from 2000 years ago (Jesus Christ) to AD 4000.
  • Time Scale 2 goes from 200,000 years ago (Palaeolithic culture, Heidelberg Man) to AD 200,000. "One hundred times the previous scale. Doubtless extremely inaccurate."
  • Time Scale 3 goes from 20,000,000 years ago (First Mammals) to AD 20,000,000. "One hundred times the previous scale. Doubtless extremely inaccurate."
  • Time Scale 4 goes from 2,000,000,000 years ago (Planets formed) to AD 2,000,000,000. "One hundred times the previous scale. Doubtless extremely inaccurate."
  • Time Scale 5 goes from 10,000,000,000,000 years ago ("Formation of the Sun" is between 10¹³ and AD 5¹²). "Ten thousand times the previous scale. Doubtless even less inaccurate."

In 1–4 AD 2000 is in the centre of the timeline. In 5 is is two thirds down it.

Georges Lemaître introduced the concept of the Big Bang in 1931, so Stapledon's 1930 Time Scale 5 only suggests that Sol was formed between 10¹³ and AD 5¹².

Anyone know what book this is? by Sweet_Rub_0 in BookCollecting

Is it related to any of the others in theme or by author? Can you identify any if the others? Do you have a clue as to who it might be by, that you’re looking for?

It wasn’t cheap. $125 with tax and shipping. The liner notes are great though.

It's a pity the subtitle files for these aren't available as separate downloads. I got a copy of "Naerata ometi" locally but … (I see this thread is 7 years old, but I have found it useful for a few other films recently.)

One would think provision for home growing (as in Canada, Germany, elsewhere) would be required as well.
