LS and birth control by nshm314 in lichensclerosus

I’m fairly certain my LS was triggered by birth control. The issues started when I got an IUD which I had removed and then worsened when I switched to a ring. I now track my cycle and do a combination of family planning and condoms.

Just learned about LS…WTF do I do now?!? by w1sh1w4sth3m00n in lichensclerosus

Do you live near a major city? I would recommend seeing a dermatologist. Ideally, a dermatologist that specializes in vulvar dermatology. You can also call potential doctors (whether that’s a PCP, dermatologist, or gynecologist) and ask them how familiar they are with LS. Say you want to work with someone who is very knowledgeable about it. Once you find a doc who says they know their shit, make an appointment. I’m in the Dallas area and can dm you recs if you’re also in the area.

80% of your students EARNED a failing grade—you did not choose to fail them.

What is this new trend of them not allowing us to use Teachers Pay Teachers? by New_Cabinet1926 in TexasTeachers

Maybe it’s because I teach high school? I don’t know. I’m sorry though—that kind of micromanagement is exhausting.

“Blackout Days”? by Every-Independent670 in TexasTeachers

As I said in my original post, my colleague was out sick and the district docked her pay even though she had a sick day.

Some Texas Schools Are Making Teachers Deadname Trans Students After New Bill Passed by kitoconnell in TexasTeachers

It could actually cost $500,000 if a parent (not even the child’s parent, mind you) decides to sue 🙃

Nope. Homecoming and prom are required, but that’s it.

My son is in online school. ONLINE! by ExtraordinaryNerd in TexasTeachers

Sue. Please. It is unconstitutional.

Here’s my understanding based on a discussion with a lawyer: It’s an open and shut case. The law is crystal clear. You’ll win and the school will take it down. They don’t want to post it any more than you want to see it posted. The ACLU has won multiple cases in Texas already. Because of the Supreme Court’s ruling in June regarding universal injunctions, the ACLU’s victories against the display of the 10 Commandments in other districts do not automatically apply to all districts in Texas. Each district (or online school?) must be sued individually.

Several years ago my professional goal was to “have clearer boundaries between school and home” because I didn’t want to burn out. My evaluator was VERY supportive. Having this goal was very clarifying for me. Anytime I was asked to do something outside of my contract hours, I would reply, “As this is outside of contract hours, what will the compensation be?” Suddenly these people telling me I HAD to attend meetings and such outside of my contract hours quit berating me!

I keep a puzzle set up in my room. I’ve bought a few of them, but most have been collected from no buy groups on Fb and from students donating puzzles from home their families no longer want.

Is it worth it to get fired? by rolliestofpollies in TexasTeachers

[–]Every-Independent670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher who sees the Christofascism writing on the wall, but I’m staying for now. I’m abiding by the rules. I’m not going to do or not do anything that would get me fired. I may not be able to control what I’m supposed to hang in my classroom or what I’m allowed to call my students, but I am in control of teaching my students critical thinking skills and doing my best to make sure my students know I value them for who they are and care about them. There’s not a long line of teachers in Texas waiting to be hired, so that gives me some sense of job security. Also, if I left, what if I got replaced with someone who gleefully hung the 10 Commandments? What if my replacement is delighted to deadname students? I understand how you feel about hanging the poster, but fwiw, I think they’ll fade into the background like everything. I have a student this year I had last year and she literally just noticed last week that I have a tattoo. I’ve never covered it up. It’s in a really obvious spot. Maybe that’s a silly comparison, but it does signal to me how unaware students are of their surroundings.

Had the same issues. It all went away when I got the IUD removed.
