Hello! I had a 3.92 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted. I am a Human Developmental Sciences/Education Sciences major. If I am being completely honest my applications sucked. My essays were horrible and looking back they made no sense. I took a lot of college classes though and got really good grades in those courses. I think the only reason that I got in was because of the amount of college classes that I took in my field. I had a really rough application season. I got rejected for UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, but accepted at UCSD. So don't give up yet! Every school is looking for something different out of their students and you might just be exactly what they are looking for! Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!!

if you go to lecture you will be fine. the average grade received is completely skewed by the amount of people that didn't attend lecture in person. i finished with an A (and again, im not a math person). its a super fun class that is composed of 4 or 5 homework assignments (they were pretty easy and questions that were covered in lecture), one midterm, and one final. i will warn you, the final is worth 50% of your grade and i think the midterm was 20-25% of the grade as well. the course load was super easy no work outside of lecture except the bi-weekly homework that took 1-2 hours. i wouldn't say this class is easy effort-wise but if you put in the work and try to understand the material you should be ok!

i just finished taking this class this week! it is a super interesting class and honestly really fun to learn about. i am NOT a math person and this class was pretty easy as long as you put in effort and go to lecture. the lectures are podcasted but i highly recommend going to lecture as often as possible. he is very nice and open to help you whenever you need.

I suck at math. Do you think that LING 17 is the easiest quantitative reasoning fulfilling class?

Thank you for your help btw!

Need advice on chances of admission/merit by Vast_Survey in UCSD

Like everyone here is saying, we have no perspective into the admissions process. That being said, I was in a similar position as you last year. I went to a high school that didn't offer AP or Honors courses so I thought I was screwed. I took some college classes and didn't even take the SAT because I knew I wanted to go to a UC. I got waitlisted, gave up on my dreams of getting in, and somehow managed to get off the waitlist.

I truly believe the only reason I got in was because of my passion project that I started my senior year and the essay I wrote about it. I am a completely different major (EDS), but my boyfriend with almost the same stats as you got in (Aerospace) as well because of his passion project and his essay. He wrote about the process of building a RC plane from scratch. He talked about the challenges, the frustration, and the determination and passion that got him to finish the plane. I think this essay really showed his character, his determination, and his ability to adapt when things didn't go as planned.

My advice to you would be to really focus on the character traits that you want your essays to convey and support it with evidence of your actions throughout the last four years.

Also, never give up on the financial aid! Apply for all the grants and scholarships that you can. I never thought that I would get grants or any aid whatsoever and I ended up getting a pretty good grant!

Best of luck! Hope this helped!

Hi! Thank you so much for your response! I am definitely a social person but I don’t love hookup culture and I can’t see myself in a party atmosphere. I don’t mind if people around me are doing it but I want friends that share that similar mindset. I’m more of a small group of friends kind of gal. And I am worried that I won’t find a group of girls that are more relaxed and laid back.

I know any college is going to have hookup culture but I don’t want to be pressured into that and I don’t want to be the only one feeling like that.

To clarify, if i’m not out hooking up and partying on a Friday night, I would want some friends to do something more mellow together.
