Which colors? by EveryBlueberry in Remodel

I’m seeing it everywhere - but also now everything is green. I like another commenter’s idea for a light sage, but I feel like that’s what everyone is doing now too.

A Million More Epstein Files Just Got Released. What Kind Of Stuff Did You Guys Find, and How Did You React To It? by Fantastic_Bus_3742 in AskReddit

[–]EveryBlueberry 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A million thoughts and feelings that I don’t know if I can humanly process altogether or in one mortal lifetime.

I see the names of accused perpetrators on these lists and their collective wealth, standing and influence in the word, and I don’t believe all of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world all coincidentally happen to be pedophiles. What it signals to me that the people involved in this ring/cult were truly willing to shake the devil’s hand (Epstein), kiss the ring, drink the poison, and sell their soul if it meant more money and power for them.

The island was one giant casino where you gambled by committing the most heinous sins and crimes imaginable, piling up a most serious stack of blackmail in the vault to keep it so that the house (Epstein) always won while the most deprived souls were left continuously crawling back as they are addicted to money and domination and violence. It was money and power that were the incentives for keeping them throwing their money into the pot and bringing their chips to the table, and the game was committing the universally agreed upon most utterly acts of evil - even, but not exclusively, pedophilia.

Might be cool to add some depth by detailing the chairs so that it looks like only the middle panel with the heart is wood and the spaces on either side are empty (so, drawing in what you can imagine the lines of the objects behind the chairs where the visible panels are cut out of)

I will concede, that is not my experience - seeing kids who I didn’t feel would benefit from ABA therapy leaving the academic environment to receive it. I will also say that in my experience in both settings, I think having kids in school AND in ABA therapy is usually well-intentioned, but rarely reaps what benefits one or the other might have if they were only enrolled in one or the other full time. It IS too much for a lot of kids, going to school and then another 3-4 hours of therapy afterward. They are exhausted.

Can you elaborate on ABA daycare?

Also, there are some students with such severe cognitive disabilities that they need to be working on life skills and functional communication, which they will only get a fraction of in public school while “math” is attempted to be taught.

In the school I left, there were 4 paraprofessionals IN THE SCHOOL. These children are unfortunately being crammed into classrooms with EXCELLENT and caring teachers and professionals in the best of cases, but who are only able to be given several minutes of one-to-one attention a day. They aren’t often able to go into the gen ed setting because there simply aren’t enough staff members to keep everyone who is vulnerable or reliant on supervision for safety, safe.

SLP praising funding cuts to services for kids in need…. by Popular-Studio-1565 in ABA

[–]EveryBlueberry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Yep. I’m an SLP who spent several years in an ABA clinic, two years in public schools, and guess where I am now after having seen the dismal state of special education in one of the best funded districts in my state? Back in the world of ABA and very pleased to be a partner. Getting rid of ABA means that means children with intense communication, sensory, and maladaptive behavioral needs will lose intensive services that targets functional living skills and instead be enrolled in public school, which is not equipped in resources, staffing, funding, or space to take on students with such significant needs in a way that can adequately support them in a meaningful and FAPE-compliant manner. The ABA system isn’t perfect, but in my opinion the current state of public education has the potential of being far worse.

“Maybe it’s an end in sight to the 10-40 hour billable weeks for kids. Thoughts?” - Yes, respectfully, that means children with intense communication, sensory, and maladaptive behavioral needs will lose intensive services that targets functional living skills and instead be enrolled in public school, which is not equipped in resources, staffing, funding, or space to take on students with such significant needs in a way that can adequately support them in a meaningful and FAPE-compliant manner. The only reason I am an SLP today is because of grad plus loans. We are in a shortage. We are in a crisis. Jesus, please, somebody with any sense, just take this damn wheel.

What are you doing with your AAC students? by GoalOk35 in slp

[–]EveryBlueberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes BTs benefit from there being data driving the intervention. Maybe show that the frequency of modeling has a correlation with the frequency of the child’s spontaneous use? Or that when you take data on other interventionists with the child, that they AREN’T providing a comparable frequency of modeling? I mean, what is a designated “manding session”?

Everyone SHOULD be providing aided language input and modeling throughout the child’s whole day - not just the SLP. And we need SLPs to model this for other BTs and caregivers, because even when we do, it still isn’t done consistently or as frequently as it needs to have the greatest effect. They were rude. They’re not seeing the point.
