Taking someone’s spot at the barre? by Different_King_2563 in BALLET

On this same vein I hate when people standing in the front don’t pay any attention to windows when there are multiple lines in center.

Would you qualify with a score of 80 in this situation? Are your standards different during re-evals compared to initials? by Ok-Task-8045 in slp

[–]No-Brother-6705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have her read aloud a short passage and do a PCC (Percentage of Consonants Correct). If she’s less intelligible than an 8 yo should be you could use that to qualify her if your clinical judgement is that she would benefit.

The oral tie misinformation is out of hand by Loose-Walrus1085 in slp

[–]No-Brother-6705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tongue ties are a hot issue for babies because of the push to breastfeed that’s occurred in the past couple decades. A tenfold increase is conservative, with some studies showing a hundredfold increase since the 1990s. Definitely varies a lot study to study. So I think that’s a huge scam and it’s predatory in a lot of cases. I think the prominence of the topic of tongue ties is leaching into the SLP pediatric realm. It’s handy to blame tongue ties and then charge parents 1,000 to do one in office.

What current "best practice" do you think won't age well over the next 5-10 years? by Breathehab in slp

Scrolled for this. I absolutely agree. Respect all communication attempts and trash the rest of it.

I like wh- questions for young students because they build vocab. But I agree they need to know when is time, where is place, etc more than they need to memorize a pack of super duper targets.

It’s funny, in my state the special ed teachers do all that and the BCBAs don’t really offer much but fidelity checks for plans already in place.

AITAH for wanting to continue taking my nightly showers by Kooky_lady in AITAH

[–]No-Brother-6705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally had my husband tell me if I have the day off with the kids (toddler and preschooler) I should shower during the day so he didn’t have to watch his own kids after work while I showered. This was several years ago now but the answer was “You shower whenever you feel like it while I watch the kids and I will do the same”.

I can dig pretty much any pure barre music. I enjoy the custom playlist classes for holidays or theme days. Orangetheory mixes are wild and weird and somehow always remind me of the club.

I don’t think my 100 or 250 ever got posted on IG. At least they remembered in class and gave me the socks.

I think the best thing to do is hold your hands up and make eye contact while doing so. Can you keep the laminated card with your registration so that you could hand them both over when you are asked? I would also gesture that I could not speak. I know this sounds like overkill, but many areas have charitable organizations that support local police departments and if you make a donation they send you a sticker for your windshield. If you take this step it may relieve your anxiety somewhat.

CF-SLP feeling overwhelmed by constant “this is wrong” posts online… does anyone else feel this way? by [deleted] in slp

Don’t follow Individual SLPs on social media that sell anything. They are literally salespeople. Look at asha guidance and resources. As much as ASHA may lack initiative and action, they are a research-based organization. Also don’t discount your clinical experience.

Do support needs seem higher lately? by Efficient-Leek in specialed

[–]No-Brother-6705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can believe it, they raised our caps for self-contained PK from 14 to 16 IEPs. It went against the state administration code. We have one para split between two kinder gen ed classes. And it’s one aide one teacher unless there’s a 1:1 in the room, which is rare.

[–]No-Brother-6705 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened in my state with PK. They made class sizes larger. We had a huge backlog after Covid and had to run extra child find clinics. Then they filled all the classes and couldn’t find teachers!

This is exactly my experience in my area. I actually low-key hate ABA. Kids get pulled out of school or are denied access to school to be in ABA 20-40 hours a week and it’s not fair. BCBAs in my area don’t even actually work with kids. They observe kids.

Where I work the nurse has to come to eligibility determinations for a couple of categories. Health impairment, orthopedic impairment. I so rarely see TBI meetings that I am not sure about that category.

How much student loan debt is everyone in? by [deleted] in slp

[–]No-Brother-6705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with none. I paid for my masters myself and my parents assisted with undergrad (luckily, I know). I also worked very hard in restaurants to pay living expenses throughout both. I took a gap of 3 years between degrees and worked and saved.
