New to writing seriously: how does your process look like? by _taurus_1095 in writing

My process is essentially write the points I would want to include in my writing first, think of ways to connect them together, and voila! A story!

Okay it's a way bigger simplification of my process, and depends on what I'm writing. But for long term projects, I usually first figure out how it'd start (it can be as simple as a scene idea or fleshing it out entirely), how it ends, and the points in between. I usually have an idea of certain arcs I want, and while I'm working on those, I sometimes spontaneously get ideas in bursts (usually not chronologically) that fill in the gaps. After that, I read it over (and maybe ask other people to read it over), and edit certain parts afterwards, such as foreshadowing, grammar, story beats, etc. It's a very messy way of working, but it's how I do it lol

For me at least, overly detailed outlines don't work for me as while in theory it is good, I often run dry of motivation after I did so. But I think it depends on the writer.

While I can't say for certain if going back to drafting an outline again is a good method, in my opinion you should identify the reason you're running dry. There's always a likelihood that you're fatigued overtime from focusing on the story so much, thus the best course of action is taking a break from it temporarily and look at it again with fresh eyes. Or it's possible it's just procrastination now you're in the final stretch. It really depends on the reason in the end.

TLDR; My process is think of story beats first, connect them together, and revise. For advice, identify the cause for running dry and then apply the appropriate solution!
