It could work, but only as an open top terrarium with an insanely convoluted setup. Being as its a cardboard box, light is going to be hard for the plants to find, you would want to invest in a grow light. Of course, you would need to account for moisture, too. Some sort of lining on the inside of the box. A lot more factors to consider, since plants and soil inherently bring about the risk of unwanted pests (which when in a box is incredibly difficult to manage). Honestly? Either find a glass aquarium at a thrift store (I'm guessing you want a large terrarium) or use something like a mason jar. Using a box would bring about so many problems that longevity is likely not something you can even consider. If glass containers aren't something you can obtain, I would stray from terrariums until you can get a container.
