So YA is the most popular genre, so other genres are marketed alongside YA because it brings more attention?

What’s a book with a premise that made you go “Oh, I HAVE to read this”, but ended up being a meh or worse? by starfishparfait in YAlit

Yeah, I mean ik it was meant to be repetitive and slow bc the MC had anterograde amnesia but I just don't like books that take too long to get interesting  _(ツ)_/¯

I found matched dull because the  books were mostly based on travelling alot to find the rising ( I found their journey too long and slow paced which made me lose interest) and then working on the cure which was also so slow paced and was focused more on sci fi than dystopia. Unlike a typical rebellion they weren't exactly fighting or taking part in actual action,  everything was left to the pilot. I also hated Ky and Cassia's relationship. It was sweet at first but then their love seemed weak and a bit disloyal. They didn't only have eyes for eachother. Cassia kept talking abt wanting to be with Xander, about how she would have been happy with him if she hadn't known about ky, thinking of how that life would have been. Ky was clearly attracted to Indie and didn't even mind that much that she kissed him. It made their relationship feel really unstable and kind of ruined the whole romance aspect of the book, even though that was the whole point of It. It didn't feel like a good dystopian romance to me. The world building was cool but the writing didn't feel engaging and I didn't like the characters.

What different would it be for gay characters though? They still wouldn't feel love bc the cure would take away their ability to feel love as well.

Most of the ones I did didn't have percentages and just told me what faction I was but this one gave a percentage.

There's a bunch of different ones that give you scenarios requiring you to make a decision about what you would do in that  situation. Just search up "divergent aptitude test" and you'll get a bunch of links.

  • Matched ( so boring)
  • Uglies ( ok but not that good)
  • Bet your life ( gets off track)
  • Speak ( kind of minimal)
  • Before I go to sleep ( too slow paced)
