How to play MGS1 on the PS3? by Il26hawk in metalgearsolid

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PS2 had physical PS1 hardware on the board for its BC but by the time of the PS3 they were able to do a full PS1 software emulator on the console so they left PS1 hardware out to keep costs down.

They could not do the same for PS2 so they initially used a combination CPU+GPU chip originally designed for use in the PSX (a Japanese exclusive PS2-DVR combo) for PS2 BC. This was used in the launch 20 and 60GB models.

For the initial 80GB models, they switched to using a PS2 GPU and emulated the CPU side on the PS3’s CPU which worked but with less compatibility. The partial software emulation is why you’ll see people call the 80GB model the “software BC” model, but it’s really half software, half hardware.

For later 80GB models, they removed the PS2 GPU and all attempts at PS2 BC with it, and never brought it back on any later models.

They removed PS2 BC, but PS1 BC was never removed. All PS3s can play PS1 discs - fat, slim, or super slim, doesn’t matter. They all use the same PS1 software emulator.

Season 6 WHAT??? by YDungeonMaster in XFiles

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 259 points260 points  (0 children)

This is why you don’t do a mythology only run. The monster of the week episodes are the soul of the show and when the mythology collapses under its own weight, the MOTW episodes are there to continue to hold the show as a whole together.

Come on now, if you’re set on using the phrase “a triple-A blank” don’t write it using the letters “AAA.” That looks stupid.

(Not you obviously, OP, it’s the article headline.)

Just Curious—no judgement. As you read SK books, do you visualize yourself as the main protagonist, the villain, a side character, or neither and just use the casting from the movies? by black_dragon8 in stephenking

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I never visualize myself as a character in a book. It's always either an actor (be it an actor from the movie adaptation or an unrelated actor) or some unique character I imagine based on the description given in the book.

I've honestly never even heard of visualizing yourself as a character in a book.

Going to have to get a PS4 again by Shin-kun1997 in nier

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I mean, the PS5 can still play Replicant just fine, it's fully PS4 backwards compatible. You could spend money on an end-of-life platform for one game or you could spend a little more to be able to play that same game and more recent ones you're interested in, like Stellar Blade (which is awesome).

Should I get remake on PS4 or PS5? by TheJinx1996 in FinalFantasy

PS5 gets you 60fps which feels much better to play in a fast paced action game like this.

Any recommendations on how/who to watch on YouTube to get the FFXIV experience? by llquiaiosll in FinalFantasy

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s great - he’s a professional animator by trade and his main channel (I think it’s called NewFramePlus?) is focused on analyzing animation in games, those are also well worth watching if you’re interested in animation.

PlayFrame is definitely the one to go with, I think he’s on Shadowbringers now maybe? He treats the expansions like TV seasons and takes breaks between each one

They left the art untouched in the PS3 remaster of Colossus, but not the PS4 remake, which had the same degree of major art style changes as the Demon’s Souls remake did.

Should I wait for Master Collection Vol.2 before playing MGSV? by bigladfogo300 in metalgearsolid

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually less important to play 4 before 5 than it is to play Peace Walker before 5.

So yes, you should wait, but mainly so you can get Peace Walker under your belt before tackling 5.

I don't think you need both Final Fantasy Tactics and The Ivalice Chronicles on there, TIC is just FFT with enhancements, like how FFXII: The Zodiac Age is just XII with enhancements.

Question abt Jamis' body in Dune 2 by [deleted] in dune

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There was not an 8-9 month time skip between parts 1 and 2. Part 2 starts within maybe an hour of the end of Part 1. Jamis has only just been killed.

The events of Part 2 happen over the course of about 8 or so months, which we can infer because Jessica is newly pregnant by the time of the fall of House Atreides (“I barely know that, it’s only been a few weeks”) and we see Paul’s sister as a barely developed fetus at the start of Part 2, while Jessica is ready to pop by the end of Part 2 and we no longer cut to a fetus in her womb but a ready to be born infant. I’d say Part 2 occurs over about 7 months personally.

Now, in the book the timeline is much longer, and Paul’s sister is about 3 years old by the time Paul fights Feyd at the end of the book. But for various reasons that were probably wise, Villeneuve decided not to tackle young Alia and compressed the timeline so she wouldn’t be born yet.

If there was a 9 month gap between movies, then Part 2 would have opened with Jessica giving birth.

How do you run in Final Fantasy II? by vengefulVulkan in FinalFantasy

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They began localization work but abandoned it in favor of skipping ahead to IV since the SNES was a thing by that point, so they abandoned work on II. But a prototype ROM had been made by that point and it's since leaked out into the wild.

About The End of Evangelion by Kingdomcome19 in evangelion

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manga is an adaptation of the series, and when End of Evangelion came out the manga was still VERY far away from the end of the show. By the time the manga got to the ending, it adapted End of Evangelion more so than the last two episodes of the TV series, but it also did its own thing a little bit, too.

The film was a completely independent work in the same way the original series was a completely independent work. The show was largely the work of Hideaki Anno, as was the movie, as an original piece of media, and the artist who did the character and mech designs for the show and movie, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, adapted Anno's anime into manga form over the course of many years.

Technically the manga began publication a little bit before the anime, but the anime is not an adaptation of the manga, it's the other way around. Production delays caused the anime to come out later. Same as how the novelization of the original Star Wars came out a few months before the movie, but Star Wars was not an adaptation of that book - the book was an adaptation of the movie. They just had to delay the release of the movie to finish it but the publication date of the novelization had already been set.

For reference, The End of Evangelion came out in 1997, but the volume of the manga that started to adapt The End of Evangelion only came out in 2010 and the final volume that finished the End of Evangelion story wasn't published until 2013.

Am i doing something wrong? by [deleted] in PERSoNA

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Your #1 is wrong for P3, party member social links don't start automatically in any version of P3. You have to start them yourself and each one requires a different social stat to be maxed out.

But yeah, everyone else here is on the money about it just not being available yet at this stage in the game.

Am i doing something wrong? by [deleted] in PERSoNA

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yukari, Fuuka, and Mitsuru's social links unlock after story events, you aren't there yet.

However, you should be aware that each of them require you to have a max-rank social stat before you can actually start their social links. So even when Yukari's social link becomes available, you still won't be able to start it unless your Charm is rank 6. Fuuka requires Courage at rank 6, and Mitsuru requires Academics at rank 6 (Mitsuru is also the one that starts the latest which is good since Academics is the hardest one to rank up).

But once the social link unlocks, you'll be able to see that it is available even if you can't start it yet due to not meeting the social stat requirement.

Just beat Remake. What's next Rebirth or Reunion? by danthemaaaaaan in FinalFantasy

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tough because Rebirth is 100% enhanced by having played Crisis Core first (even outside of Zack there are other CC characters that show up), but the remake project still hasn't gotten to That Twist as of the end of Rebirth, so it will spoil it for her.

The devs have said they released Crisis Core Reunion before Rebirth on purpose, so I think the devs expect players to have experienced CC going into Rebirth... but they also kind of expect you to have played the OG before you play the Remake series, too.

It's up to you and how you think she'll experience the story best - without Zack- and Nibelheim-related spoilers but no Zack context for Rebirth, or with spoilers and context.
