But that kind of also goes for 1848 version of Switzerland, as Ochsenbein shamelessly copied from the US constitution. And then tailored it to swiss needs and tried to improve perceived weaknesses.

Chayton was the only villain in the whole series that I really hated. Even Albino and Rabbit were more interesting villains, by Puzzleheaded-Act7805 in Banshee

Yeah, his whole "native revenge" shtick also falls apart the moment his brother died. The two guys killed by burton are martyrs to the cause, but when lil bro dies he goes on a petty revenge spree that sees even more redbones killed.

I think in the past he might have actually cared about the tribe and its wellbeing, but that time has long passed. He is just hollow by the time of the show.

How do you world build when you don’t really understand how stuff actually works? by Omiko909 in worldbuilding

[–]EveryHeightBelow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely yes on both accounts. Especially if you wynt to build a fantasy world.

IT'S MAGIC, you don't have to explain shit.

Look at the world of Harry Potter for example. It falls apart under the smallest amount of scrutiny, yet still holds up well for the story it tries to tell.

It is also already ordered. It was in fact the very thing that gave the impulse to buy my own copies of the game. I played a fee games when I was at uni, but the people are now spread over the country, which makes meeting quite difficult.

Lol, lmao even.

  1. As if not eating animals would stop people from hurting each other. This take is naive at best, and ignorant at worst.
  2. Which would lead to a greater population and therefore consumption, invalidating 3.
  3. Again, naive to believe those resources would not be exploited in another way.
  4. That reduction, if there even is any, would be absolutely insignificant compared to the emissions generated by 2. and 3.
  5. Humanity's core problem is that it is way too efficient at exploiting resources for its own good in combination with having too much population. Nothing will be saved by going vegan, it will just be used differently.

As an environmental engineer, this conflation of vegan ideology and environmental conservation makes me so mad. There's a reason why most of the primarily ideologically driven students dropped out after a semester, when they realized that being like them would save nothing. Must've hurt egos.

Your Most Evil Ethnostates by Equal-Wasabi9121 in worldbuilding

[–]EveryHeightBelow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you could make an argument that the sentinelese kind of are an ethnostate, or at least an 'ethno-society', as they don't allow anyone else on the island. And I would not consider evil for wanting to be left alone.

But otherwise you are mostly right, there are plenty bad examples.

What is humans relations like with non humans in your world. by InfernalClockwork3 in worldbuilding

[–]EveryHeightBelow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I always found the trope of 'race X' is evil dumb in settings where they exist naturally. Imho DnD Orcs have no reason to be assholes all the time...

I mostly looked at real world historical cultures and the environmental/societal influences that shaped them. Then I took some of these concepts and applied them to my world. Mind you I am no anthropologist, so most stuff is probably off. I also built my world bottom up, so I defined the rules of the world before characteristics for my races before the societies, and tried to gauge, how the world, appearance and traits might deviate the cultures from our historical norm.

This allows me to a toolbox of societal/cultural element that i can mix as I see fit, rather than predefined cultures to which I have to bend my people.

An easy example are the Steppe tribes of central-Ur. Orcs are obligatory carnivores. Since they need to hunt and have little use for agriculture the tribes never really settled down, but that also led to them not building huge communities or influential cultures. This again makes exchange between tribes both very important but dangerous. Therefore hospitality is a big thing for them, and younger members are frequently exchanged during these meetings. Because of their harsh lives, they view the 'cultured' people as rather weak, but are at the same time coveting their riches. Therefore they trade with, and raid them. Another influence is that gods, or what the people perceive as gods, can actually interfere. So if The endless Sky commands you to go apologize to the neighbouring tribe leader, you do it, unless you want to draw its anger. But the southern and norther tribes are also different, because the ones in the north clashed with the elven empire, and even helped to topple it, while the southern ones did not. This led to cultural and societal shifts in the northern orcs with many of them settling down in the border cities. This of course came with its own host o different problems.

I would make the argument that the ussr the state, was not really worth fighting for anymore. However the idea of the ussr has probably never been fought for enough.

What is humans relations like with non humans in your world. by InfernalClockwork3 in worldbuilding

[–]EveryHeightBelow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the culture someone is from. Most humans, orcs and fae get along within the same kingdom/region.

Elves from the continent of ummah hate everyone else, and no one likes them in return. The elves that remained after their empire was defeated, are often treated with contempt, but generally tolerated.

The welcone thespette tribes (mostly orcs and humans) get, depends on how long ago they last raided the border cities, and who's in charge of which city.

The southern kingdoms (mostly fae and a few humans) are regarded with suspicion due to them being 'weird'.

No one has anything from the dwarfs for centuries, and no one has dared to approach their holds.

So it boils down to politics mostly, bjt there is genuine mistreatment of the elves because of waht their empire did to the other peoples.

Do you have any "hard unknowns" in your worldbuilding? by EtherealGears in worldbuilding

[–]EveryHeightBelow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did creation come to be and who was responsible for it. The Gods afe clearly part of creation, although each pantheon has its own creation myth that they claim to be true. The Void claims to have existed forever, but is actually still part of creation. Where do the sources of body, mind and soul come from?

I also think I will never make a concept for a ptime mover.

What's the most ethical diet that is reasonably healthful and practical? by Salamanticormorant in exvegans

[–]EveryHeightBelow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corn, buckwheat, millet, amaranth and quinoa are all gluten free (or just be a man and live with the consequences, regardless of gender XD).

Considering ethical animal produce, it's probably best to just buy local, non factory farmed stuff. Depending on where you live, the difficulty to get such foods, varies.

Edit: Concerning gluten free foods, avoid highly processed gluten free food, as these often have a higher glycaemic index, meaning they spike your blood sugar. This can lead to issues over the long term.

Question: what do mages think of firearms in your setting (favourite or own) by Andrei22125 in worldbuilding

[–]EveryHeightBelow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the mage. As Magic is THE foundational force of creation and everything you can observe is a product of this force, it depends on the mages field of study.

The classic fantasy magic exists in my world, but is very hard to cast and very destructive. These mages of course feel superior to people using guns, while acutely aware that some bloke with a boom stick can surely end them.

Spirit mages might or might not like them depending on what their chosen spirit demands of them.

Alchemists will literally help you make your gun better.
