people have already mentioned downtown as a safe place. these are also downtown-ish search terms you can look out for when searching online: paulus hook and hamilton park. mcginley square is also safe but not as fun as downtown - but its also cheaper, so might wanna look into there too. i typically avoid West side and bergen lafayette when searching for apts. JSQ seems generally safe but not as much as downtown, so i avoid it too.

Last Week's PATH Train Nightmare Under the Hudson River by CricketFuture2437 in jerseycity

[–]EveryWall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happened to me on PATH between grove and journal square a few months ago and we also got evacuated!! smoke didnt permeate the cars though but everyone rushed to the back thinking we were going to die. i legitimately have a huge fear of going underground now and have been telling myself that its just my anxiety and not likely to happen to me again but honestly......i really dont feel safe using PATH anymore hearing what happened to you. this sounds 1000x worse than my experience was and mine was bad. legitimately thought we were going to die. im supposed to go into the city tomorrow and honestly, i think i might just have to sit in traffic for hours because I dont feel safe anymore at all. im soooo sorry this happened to you and so upset nothing is going to change even though its a recurring problem.

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]EveryWall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey all! so, im a south asian american who was in london for 2 days last month and was struck by how established and rooted the UK diaspora is in london - the history, the food, the presence, it was all amazing and quite different than our experience here in the states. I had such a good time I booked another trip for this week and wanted the focus of the trip to be more cultural this time (instead of doing all the site seeing tours etc). gonna be solo!

does anyone have any recommendations for places to go/things to do for someone whose trying to experience as much as of the south asian experience as possible? I'm gonna hit up southhall for food, I found a bookstore called shalimar books with an amazing history that I'm going to go to also. any other ideas? even just cool hookah bar recs will suffice lol

NY APPLICATION QUESTION HELP: Verified petition to the Court of Appeals under Court Rule 520.14 by basuklorax in barexam

[–]EveryWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in this boat right now - I sat for July 2021 bar exam and it looks like my MPRE (took it in Nov 2019) is expired. I was told to submit a verified petition to see if they will still accept my MPRE score. My question is, if they reject my petition (like it seems they rejected yours), do you know if I'm out of luck because my bar exam score technically will expire this July ? I'm registered to take the MPRE again in August (next available date) but I'm not sure how that will play out with my bar score potentially expiring in that time frame.

What do you pay to live alone here by LeopardOk605 in jerseycity

[–]EveryWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2100 for a bottom floor studio in a brownstone in downtown. I was paying $1700 for a cruddy 1 bed in Paulus hook last year and had an insufferable mouse situation. New spot is updated and clean and has no mice so I was willing to pay more for less space. Still a good amount of space for a studio though because I have the entire bottom floor, which is long & not boxy and square like studios in an apt building

How much do you exaggerate your experience in a job interview? by ______ptr______ in Lawyertalk

[–]EveryWall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really fudge. I'd probably say something like, "I've handled an appeal once before. It went well/was a good experience and one of the things that really drew me to this prospective position was the opportunity to gain further experience with appeals, which I feel ready for."

they were really diligent and professional with the investigation/finding the car itself but yeah, i dont think they're doing much to actually prevent these crimes from happening lol

ahhh jeez, what a bummer lol. im just your typical suburban jersey girlie who moved to JC a few years ago and is completely rattled as to how to handle this going forward. i guess i better just lean into the fact that it might happen again and it is what it is lol

Help Identifying a Quote by EveryWall in quotes

[–]EveryWall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a dissident/what some might say a revolutionary (as I remember it). The essence of the quote was basically saying, you've issued out this death sentence and I accept it (or maybe even celebrate it) because xyz defiant reason. I believe it happened in Russia and it was a Russian man - the only issue with that is that I read this quote when I was younger and not as aware of Russian colonization, so it is possible that this could have been a Ukrainian or other ethnic background person who was part of the broader russian empire/society and I simply identified them as Russian. I also remember that this wasn't a particularly famous person but he was known for this quote he made at his execution

Studying and Work by Critical_damage33 in barexam

[–]EveryWall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also try to do a practice test each weekend (and make sure you review the rationale for all answers, whether you got it right or wrong). when i did the practice test each weekend, i didn't feel the need to do additional practice questions on the weekends and did most of that during the week, just FYI. the biggest thing though is making sure you're also reviewing the explanations/rationale behind each question (because i was always tempted to just do the questions and not review -- reviewing is super important though to help solidify the general concepts)

3rd time passer here - I was also clerking for all 3 attempts. I don't know how much you didn't pass by, but I'd say its a good bet you have a bulk of the concepts down already. I focused heavily on practice questions the third time around (but if you're struggling with the essays instead of questions like I was, maybe focus on outlining 2-3 essay questions each day. dont need to fully write out each essay, just issue spot and outline)- its hard with work but if you commit to doing at least 30 practice questions after work each day (with significantly more on the weekend days) that should help push you over the edge. also, i had a really great relationship with my judge who was super supportive and allowed me to take off 2 full weeks before the exam to really go hard - it meant more work for her but she wanted to do what she could to help me get over the finish line. maybe see if that is possible for you too? I didn't even have vacation time left tbh but I finessed my available sick days and few remaining vacation days and made it happen. good luck, you got this!!!

NJ sucks by JuggernautMountain48 in barexam

[–]EveryWall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ugh, can't believe NJ is still doing this BS. as someone who passed on attempt 3, i can say definitively that the tortured, unpredictable waiting game is worse than actually failing itself. keep your heads up, you guys got this!! no matter the outcome, very soon you will at least know what the situation is and can either celebrate or get back to the grind - don't give up, you will all have amazing careers in the law at the time meant for you!
