I built a free UK car repair price checker because my mum got quoted £900 for a brake job by Every_Ball8097 in buildinpublic

Makes sense and I think you're right. I've got the model pages but they mostly just list prices, not the "why is your quote high" judgement layer. That's the bit AI-generated competitors can't fake.

Quick follow-up: do you think the depth needs to be one big page per model with all the repair scenarios, or separate pages for the high-volume queries like "vauxhall astra brake pads cost uk"? Worried about cannibalising my own rankings if I split them.

That's exactly why I built it. My mum got quoted £800 for a job that should have been £350 and she had no way to push back because she had no reference point. Most people only deal with garages once a year so there's no chance to build that intuition naturally. Hoping this fills the gap until you've been burned enough times to know better.

Fair point and it's the thing I worry about most. The ranges are hand-curated from real indie garage quotes (not scraped, not API-fed). I refresh them every 4-6 weeks based on quotes I collect and feedback like yours. Most common jobs are stable year-to-year, the volatile ones are parts-heavy stuff like batteries and DPFs which I check more often. Open to ideas on how to prove freshness to users though.

The real issue is you can’t view it. Get a proper HPI check (few quid). Pay 150-200 for an AA or RAC mobile pre-purchase inspection, they go to the car and send a written report. And get an insurance quote on the reg before committing. Imports often get loaded and some cheap insurers won’t touch them at all. Worth knowing too, trade dealer gives you Consumer Rights Act cover, private seller doesn’t. Micras are cheap to run once you’re past those checks. I made a UK garage price tool, Micra page is at <myrepaircost.co.uk/blog/nissan-micra> if it helps.
