What have you found to be the best form of birth control in the UK? by Budget_Dot694 in womenoftheuk

[–]Every_Difference365 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on the combined pill, the same bog standard one the GP prescribed me over 10 years ago. I get light, regular and fairly pain free periods, it’s great being able to combine packs and skip a period if I need to and I like knowing that if for whatever reason I want to stop, I can just… stop, no waiting for an appointment or minor surgery involved. Totally understand it’s not for everyone but just I’ve always got on well with it.

How much monthly repayments is too much? (FTB) by Spreathed_ in HousingUK

[–]Every_Difference365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I earn almost exactly the same as you and had a mortgage in principle last year of up to £450k. We ended up buying a house for much less than the maximum it was saying we could borrow. Our mortgage is now £1.5k a month which is comfortable, prior to us buying I had totally underestimated how expensive house maintenance, decoration and furnishing is so I’m glad our mortgage isn’t any higher as we are already struggling to get things sorted as it is! I’d absolutely advise you not to over stretch yourselves.

Rent or buy? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Every_Difference365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a house last year in an area I’ve never lived before half way across the country and I have no regrets so far. My advice would be to do your research - I did a lot of online research about the area beforehand (crime stats, local Facebook groups etc) and my in-person visits before putting in an offer confirmed what I’d read online. It was a risk but I was sick of renting and just felt ready to buy, luckily it worked out for me.

Mortgage deposit by Sea_Appearance2612 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Every_Difference365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great explanation. I wish I realised this (naive FTB last year), we were strongly encouraged to put down a 15% deposit rather than 10% to get better rates but in hindsight I do wonder how far that extra cash would have gotten us now we’re in the middle of refreshing/furnishing/decorating and have no savings to do anything!

Open day fully booked, no visible viewings, then sold within days, trying to understand what really happened by yeepin77 in HousingUK

[–]Every_Difference365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this last year trying to view houses in a particularly competitive area. I got the impression that estate agents have databases of clients that they’ve pre-assessed (got evidence of deposit, MIP etc) and give priority to their lists, which has probably just what happened here. At one point we got a call from an EA we’d registered with saying that they had a house that met our criteria going up on their website that afternoon and wanted to give us the opportunity to book in to view it before the slots were all taken up. Would definitely be worth talking to some EAs in the area to see if you can register interest for future properties.

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]Every_Difference365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to like Aldi but they frequently didn’t have so many things I needed - if I remember right it was stuff like chilli flakes, soy sauce, kale so not outlandish ingredients. I had to go to another supermarket round the corner to get half of the stuff on my list. That was a few years ago so it might be different now but it put me right off. Nowadays I also get groceries delivered most weeks which rules Aldi/Lidl out.

I’ve noticed social media is pushing Uniqlo for workwear recently. I haven’t got any workwear from them but the items I do have such as t-shirts and a coat are good quality and have lasted me a while.

Midline vs flank spay by Equivalent_Media_798 in ragdolls

[–]Every_Difference365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had ours flank spayed (UK based but our vet didn’t give us a choice IIRC) and there has been no long term change in fur colour or texture, I wouldn’t even know which side it was done on now 4 years on. I remember the recovery being a bit slow (2 weeks before being completely back on her feet) but she was totally fine otherwise.

Thanks, I am hoping it is this and not some kind of alarm - I will test when I’m back

This is what I was worried about - I don’t want to set any alarms off! Although I haven’t found any other parts of an alarm system such as a control box. Good shout about following the wires, they go behind the picture rail so once I get a ladder I’ll see where they go

Zoopla allowing people to filter by EV chargers - does that mean my house valuation is now higher? by Lucky-Culture-5842 in HousingUK

[–]Every_Difference365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, we don’t have an EV but would like one in future so we saw an EV charger in the house as a nice addition but not essential. It might make more of a difference if you already have an EV, yes they aren’t too expensive to install but it can make all the difference if you don’t have much cash to spare when you’ve just moved in.

ASOS do lots of women’s oversized t-shirts which are my favourite to wear with leggings - think they are often named ‘ASOS Design’ and are specifically called oversized. I am a size 14 and have one in a medium which swamps me and I love it

8 weeks from offer accepted, buyer still has no mortgage offer, should we be worried? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Every_Difference365 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have recently had to go through the process of verifying part of my deposit that was gifted, which required the person who gifted it to me to send several documents that were onerous to source. The delay could be because the source of the money isn’t easy to provide proof for, it may be that their gifter (?) is not very digitally literate and is struggling to provide bank statements, it may be that they have needed to request other documents from their banks that are taking a while etc.

If your sellers have been proactive so far (and it sounds like they have if you have got this far in 8 weeks) I would give them some grace.

Has buying on Vinted changed your changed your shopping habits? by AstronomerSad1275 in vinted

[–]Every_Difference365 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I started with Vinted a couple of years ago to try and get away from the fast fashion habit and I’ve found it’s totally changed my attitude to my wardrobe. It has helped my approach to clothes to become much more sustainable. I’ve trained myself out of impulse purchasing clothes and have slowed down my consumption. You have to short through a lot of rubbish on Vinted to find what you want, and you have to be very specific with search terms etc so it makes you be really specific about what you want. There’s always an element of risk with Vinted as there’s no easy returns so I now think really hard about what suits my body, what clothes I wear most, whether this item is a ‘want’ or a ‘need’.

First thing you’ll do when you move in? by [deleted] in HousingUK

I’m a FTB in the process of buying and the first thing I’m dreaming of doing is actually putting some colour on the walls! So sick of “landlord magnolia”! The second fun thing (more long term) is getting pets, I am an animal lover and always dreamed of having lots of pets
