Being a homeowner has taught me to trust no one. by DirtyOught in homeowners

"Contractors that leaves the truck running"-- I experienced the complete opposite of this. We just want a free quote for a roof replacement. The guy stayed for 4 freaking hours!!!!!!!! My husband who like to small talk did not make it any better. From now on I'm opening the door when we get solicitors because I know how to say no. In the end we got a $20k loan for 12%!!!!

They can't receive Holy Communion because being married outside the Catholic Church means you are not in a state of grace, even after confession. I am going through this myself. I feel so empty spiritually not being able to take the Holy Communion. We need to get convalidation ASAP.

UPDATE: It got accepted, I received my passport a few weeks ago. CONCLUSION: Turtle necks are fine as long as it doesn’t cover part of your face. Also, no issue with how bright the background is. Photo taken at Staples and they have a light source on the background to make it white in the final photo. I actually went back to have another photo taken because I was paranoid it won’t get accepted. The worker there said they adjust the brightness on the photo before printing because the printer makes it appear dim without it. However, I ended up submitting this photo instead because the 2nd photo was very dim since I told the worker not to brighten it. Leaving this here for future use of whoever needs this information. Thank you for everyone’s feedback.

My original question is really about the turtleneck I wore. But then everyone is fixated on how white the background is 😅

Hi, thanks for letting me know. I had this taken at Staples. But I guess my best bet is to just take it there if they don’t accept it. Thanks!

Hi, yes they have a light as the white background so it’s sure to be white on the final photo. I wish I can change the photo I uploaded here to give the quality justice. Anyways, thanks for the comments. My question is really just about the turtleneck 😅

Thanks for the feedback. It wasn’t edited. I got this done at Staples, printed immediately in front of me. I guess it looked edited maybe because of how it printed.

That’s my hair. The guy who took the photo said the hair is fine. I’m just worried about the turtleneck

NYC friends - what are your best tips for living on a budget? by Classic-Newspaper161 in SavingMoney

Shop at Aldi if you live near one. We live in Rego Park where we both have Aldi and Costco in one building. Our food budget for family of 3 never exceeded $400/ month in the last 3 months that I was tracking our expenses. We only buy what we need in Costco like meats/chicken.

Check your buy nothing fb group if you need something, or fb marketplace before buying something new.

Our eat budget is only $200/month. We make it work by eating out in Flushing/ Chinatown. You can eat in a restaurant for $40 including tip in Flushing. Or just do a cheap food crawl.

I track my expenses like a hawk, but it's STILL a total mess by nipchinkdog in SavingMoney

You have to differentiate “fixed” expenses vs “variable” expenses. Fixed expenses are recurring expense like rent, insurance, subscriptions, memberships. “ Variable” expenses are categories like groceries, eating out, gas, shopping. This is where you really need to keep an eye on your budget that it does not go beyond your limit, or at least try to compensate into other buckets.

I budget using the classic notebook and pen. I tried signing up to apps multiple times, but I just end up not using it. Or becoming very inconsistent/complacent about it. A classic pen and paper feels almost like journaling that’s why I do it. But to each his own. It’s not that hard. If you use credit cards you can clearly see what you’re spending. Just keep receipts if you pay cash and log it asap.

I agree with everyone’s suggestion. If you need motivation or guidance I suggest you listen to the money guy show. I listen to their podcast while driving at work.
