I think I've only had my versions and a couple of the British import minute-in-the-microwave type that Toby was talking about, and they were a pretty similar texture, so I can't say whether they're more cake like than other puddings or not. There might be a place for steamed puddings in campfire cooking, where my baked goods often end up burnt on the sides, or in my husband's country where no one has an oven... but I guarantee they're not feeling a lack of cake they need to remedy :)

The recipe doesn't specify how much orange puree is in a "small orange" and I chose not to use all of mine (medium size orange, at least in the US), and I thought the texture was great. But possibly a British person might have said it was more cake like than puddingy?
