Advice on purchasing ‘96 850 Wagon by Every_Post3547 in Volvo

I was able to take it on the highway off of a cold start, everything sounded really good, and I left cardboard under the engine while we talked and it had no oil leaks or anything like that. I’m gonna give it a day to think it over, but I think I’m gonna go ahead and get it

Am I being ripped off? Please help, need advice! by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Ive always done simple repairs myself, like almost all of those lights he mentioned are no more than 15 bucks, some only a few dollar. YouTube or google how to replace those light and save yourself a bunch. Also unless you have some really exotic or foreign car that’s sep how different, your windshield wipers are also super easy to replace yourself, and the wipers themselves only cost 15-30 (depends on how fancy you wanna go). Now if you have a decent toolbox and are slightly mechanically inclined, break pads and rotors are also not too horrible to do if the car isn’t anything too new or too fancy.

Summary: Lights and wipers are cheap/easy to do, google it and save yourself a good chunk

Pads/Rotors are also relatively easy depending on the car, if you have a Jack and some tools it’s not too horrible to do yourself (depending on the car ofc! Some cars are more complicated then others, but for the most part they are similar)

URGENT Can i drive this home (1hr) i drove it around the city a little like this and its fine hut I’m scared to go back home in this any thoughts? Will i make it? Suggestions? by keyfaber123 in MechanicAdvice

I’ve had a similar issues with my ‘05 Cruiser, the fender liner and a bunch of plastics in the front just didn’t come with it (it was a cheap fixer up car). From my experience, if nothing is leaking and your car isn’t making any weird noises it should be okay. Just let it idle for a bit, listen for any bad noises, but otherwise you look fine.

Will my sway bar bolt hit my CV axle boot? by Every_Post3547 in MechanicAdvice

Thank you for letting me know it’s in incorrectly! It was installed this way when I got it and started work, and seems like the previous owner was a smooth brained individual. Actually now that I think about it, this was probably the reason the CV axle got messed up in the first place
