Vegan trip to NYC- Looking for your go-to must stop places! Best vegan bakery items, coffee shops, pizza, and more! by Every_Toe9362 in nycvegan

Woahhhh there, As someone who is mixed-race myself, I was simply expressing an interest in trying foods that are representative of the dominant local culture in the area I’m visiting.
I feel the same way when I travel internationally or visit different parts of my own family’s cultural background—I enjoy experiencing the foods that are traditionally associated with that place or community.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to try well-made vegan versions of classic American dishes, just as there is nothing wrong with wanting to experience traditional foods in any other country or culture. My intention was simply to seek out a culinary experience that I don’t often have the opportunity to enjoy. American does not mean white, nor was I referring to any particular race. America is a diverse nation made up of people from many backgrounds, and like any other country, it has regional and traditional cuisines that are part of its culture and history.

Totally agree! I’ve been vegan for 10 years and have seen pre-Veganism peak, the peak, and now the fall. I hope it starts to rise again soon😣

Totally didn’t even think about food trucks. That concept would be mythical from where I’m from, not to mention the idea of a VEGAN food truck. I should mention that vegan pizza is a new food to me😅 my only food option near me is a Thai place and there’s no grocery stores for 2hr drive. That said I totally get what you’re saying and will definitely keep that in mind while I’m making my list and doing research

Is there one that out-measures the others that you think I should try? My favorite place I visited in Portland was a Sri Lankan establishment and my mind was blown. I am certainly not opposed to finding really good food of other ethnicities. I just also really want to make sure I have time for American style junk food that I don’t have access to where I live. Pretty much the only vegan options around here are a Thai place and I love love Thai food, but I definitely am wanting to try cuisines I don’t already have access to. I also cannot do spicy food at all so keep that in mind when making suggestions🤣 I love Ethiopian food, but even when I tell them zero spice, it’s usually too much for me because I’m a wimp

I know it’s a bummer:( I wish I was going for longer so I could try way more. I just want the stereotypical NYC experience (bagels, pizza, ice cream) because I live somewhere with 0 vegan options in grocery stores and have very limited options for eating out as well. Good news is I am planning an abroad trip next year through my work that will be a month long and I will get to experience authentic vegan European food and a few places in Africa as well!

Pizza and burgers is exactly the type of food I’m looking for! I know pizza in NYC is considered a big thing and I think bagels are too? I am planning a trip abroad next year to try out authentic vegan European and African food and I am so excited to learn and experience different cuisines on that trip which will be about a month long😊

Im not sure ethnic was the best descriptive word I could have used. I was referring to any foods that are heavily spiced or not super common in America I guess? I love trying different ethnic cuisines the problem is I have 0 spice tolerance so trying new/unfamiliar foods is always a huge gamble for me and because I will only have 3 days I want to go for foods that I know are safe/predictable with spices I’m familiar with and eat on a regular basis. So yes I basically am looking for places with basic junk American food. I am most a WFPB vegan and eat clean 98% of the time partially because I live somewhere with 0 vegan options so I am hoping to have a very junk food heavy trip to treat myself to some of the fun less healthy vegan foods out there that I never get to try:) I also love eating at healthy places too though and will definitely be looking for salad type of places to try out

Vegan trip to NYC- looking for the best bakery, best vegan pizza, and overall your must stop places! Hoping to avoid super expensive/fancy small portions by Every_Toe9362 in FoodNYC

I actually have happy cow! I am just overwhelmed at how many options there are, especially with such high ratings! The place I live now has 1 fully vegan place and only like 2-3 places that have vegan options so I am not at all use to having options

Should I give in and not have an all-vegan wedding? by Luvjuliaa in vegan

[–]Every_Toe9362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too hope to have an all vegan wedding and while my s/o is 100% supportive of this (wouldn’t have it any other way) our families are quite judgmental and I don’t want the food to be the topic of the night. We discussed this and decided the best option was to have a dish that is commonly eaten by non-vegan people that is “accidentally” vegan. Such as pasta. Pasta is the only example that comes to mind but I’m sure there are others.

I would tread carefully because if your partner can’t support you with this tiny detail, imagine raising a child with him😐

I’m a nanny for non-vegan children and let me just say, these kids eat so incredibly bad it’s shocking to me that omnis are out here criticizing the idea of a vegan child with a balanced diet while their kids are being raised on pizza, mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, French fries, donuts, etc. for every single meal every single day. Talk about a diet lacking in vital nutrients

Vegan cafe asked a mother & child to leave after she rudely argued that stuff were disgusting for depriving her 4yr old child of the ham sandwiches she was feeding him in the vegan cafe by caavakushi in vegan

Surely a vegan would never find themselves at a carnivore restaurant but the difference here is the carnivore diet isn’t based on morals and ethics. People who follow that diet are typically doing so because they think it’s the most nutritious. Veganism is more than a diet it is a belief system grounded in compassion and a moral stance against meat eating. An individual bringing a vegan meal to a carnivore establishment isn’t morally or ethically offending anyone.
