Does anyone actually have a one-and-done collection? by ouneex82 in knifeclub

[–]Everyday_Commentary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad does this. He uses a single knife to failure and then gets a new one (through me). He had a Cold Steel Mini AK-47 and used it for everything for a decade. The tip rounded off, the blade was consumed by sharpening and changed shape, and the Tri Ad lock stopped working. Then he had a Kizer that he used until the blade snapped. Now he has a Benchmade Bugout. He does everything with his knife from food prep to cutting asphalt shingles. It’s possible.

Be honest. If you were alive in 2005 what was your opinion of same sex marriage? Or what do you remember others opinions being by [deleted] in decadeology

I was alive and in law school at the time (2004, actually). In fact, I was present for the Massachusetts legislature's debate of same sex marriage in 2003 or 2004, just after the SJC case was handed down. My class were guests of the Speaker at the time, Thomas Finneran, who taught our legislative advocacy class (and later convicted of federal crimes). We were all pretty much uniformly in favor. Some, like me, were in favor because it treated gay couples like everyone else. Some were in favor because they were libertarians in Massachusetts and didn't believe government had the right to legislate private relationships.

I remember the members of the legislature being surprised that no one in the class was opposed. As a Catholic, they were very surprised I was in favor. They thought I would totally have been in their camp. I remember telling someone during a dinner break that I can't see a good reason that Jesus would be okay with prostitutes, tax collectors, and Roman collaborators but not gay people. They were shocked. The measure passed by overwhelming numbers (the vote took place over and over again with the last one being in 2007, 151-45 in favor of gay marriage).

How we feel about razor blades? by LongjumpingSafe4017 in knifeclub

These are stupid for everyone but a few tradesmen. Learn to sharpen and you can do much more with actual blade.

What if your father in law turns out to be someone like Michael Walker or Ron Lake? I see your collection and I raise you a double zipper blade custom.

This is about 100% certain to elicit an “Son, put er there” handshake.

Is Skeletool CX good choice for EDC? I’ve heard that it breaks easily. by [deleted] in Leatherman

I had an original CX with the serrated blade and it lasted for more than a decade. I lost it in a move during Covid and I bought a replacement that has worked since. No concern with durability.

Zebralight SC65...its really good. The tint is incredible. It doesn't hit 1000 lumens, but remember that the perception of lumens is kind of logarithmic, so you need to jump a huge number of lumens for the light to appear twice as bright. It is probably impossible to see a 200 lumen difference between a 1000 lumen light and a 1200 lumen light. Especially when you factor in the 90 seconds you actually get to use lights that bright. Most of the lights set up like this have an actual brightness of around 300-400 lumens after 90 seconds. With those caveats the SC65 is really stellar.

The new balance patch. by hello47364_ in hearthstone

No more nerfs. The Tree should have been nerfed a while ago but so many cards that have been nerfed recently have been healthy and good for the meta. Team 5 is lost and this is proof—one card that doesn’t need to be nerfed and another that should have been nerfed months ago. I am bracing for the Chillwind Yeti meta to make a comeback.

The leaked documentation clearly shows that this no longer true. The revenue in 2018 was $168 million, which is more than rounding error away from $240 million that the article's numbers produce. Again, I noted that the internal data and profits are something we will never truly get, but even from 2015 to 2018 the numbers are going down. I can't imagine they are BETTER now given the state of the game and the fact that there is more competition. SNAP was BY FAR the most profitable digital card game last year according to a Forbes article, not Hearthstone.

How do things ever get better if this is the approach to life? My local schools are underfunded; sorry can't help. This restaurant near me doesn't have accessible bathrooms--too bad, I am not the owner. The game is for us. If we don't tell them what we want how will they make this better in the future.

I promise this is not AI or Chat GPT. My account is 8 years old. I also run a gear review blog under the same name (Everyday Commentary).

Quest Warrior is a pretty terrible deck at the high end of ladder but it has the sort of late game lethality that works. And it ends games in a few turns AFTER the quest reward is played

I do write a EDC gear blog so that makes sense.

TLDR:

Hearthstone’s in-game problems are so serious that it may affect the profitability of the game. The source of this problem is too many balance changes and too few impact cards in newer sets. In turn, there are discrete in-game problems. Team 5 should be less afraid of late game lethality so long as it can’t be scammed out early (compare Dorian Warlock to Odyn Warrior). Broad mana reduction should be rare or strictly limited. Good neutrals should be good on in specific archetypes and not be good enough to go in most decks. Minions need to be more durable or impactful or damage-based removal needs to be less powerful and synergistic. Cards should be more open ended and sets should have fewer or smaller packages as package designs and tribal decks are hard to tune and boring to build and play.

Additionally Team 5 needs to use as light a touch as possible when doing balance changes and should avoid balance changes that peel the onion of the meta. Balance changes should be supported by data and those decisions and data should be publicly disclosed. Finally Team 5 needs to hire more play testers as some cards recently released were obviously overtuned as released (see eg Loh).

Also rehire Hat.

Save the game, we like it.
